Oh well, we had a shitty duck hunt that morning and I had some built up frustration, this deer was in the wrong place at the wrong time. If I would killed my limit of ducks I probably would have let him swim away, but I wasn't going back to my camp without any meat.

I can't ever figure out why hunters get a bad reputation with such sportsmanship like quoted above.......

If it was so ethically fricked up then it would be illegal across the board in every state, however it isnt.

Non sequitur. Doesn't have anything to do with it. You still won't admit that it was fricked up and unsporting of you to shoot that deer.

Not if the deer is 250 yards away and you are sitting 20' in the air in a box stand.

Yeah, but as a hunter you know that if you miss or make a racket you won't get another shot. In this scenario, you drove a boat up to the deer and shot it. Had you missed, you had as many chances as you needed. No sport in that.

So in your eyes, would it have been better for me to wait until the deer swam to the bank and got up on hard ground before I shot it??

No, the better thing to do would be to have let this one go. Besides, had you waited I don't think you would've been able to kill it with birdshot anyway.

I dont knwo the rules and regs in LA but Alabama specifically forbids the killing of a deer while it is in the water.

I just sat here, taking my morning shite, and this thread is nowhere near as good as I thought it would be. I'm an avid hunter and though I have never done this before and probably wouldn't, this holier than than thou attitude that you guys have is ridiculous.
To the guy, who's only response was that the OP was a shitstain, go back to the rant or gaming board with that shite. We don't disrespect each other on this board.
To Roger the shrub, you act like you're better than everybody on here and you're more of a "sportsman" because you live in AK and guided big game hunts. Though I agree with some points you make, you come off as an arrogant "Yankee" most of the time.
To the OP, if it was january and ou hadn't seen hair nor hide, shoot the deer. But you will have plenty of opportunities to fill your freezer. But I'm not going to judge you because we all do things in the heat of the moment that we may later regret. And my point is, all these dickheads want to jump on Rogers bandwagon and tell you what a disgrace you are and how unsportsmanlike that was, but people go to their high fence deer pens and shoot trophy bucks at 3 in the afternoon under automatic corn feeders from 30 yds with high powered rifles. I see point of killing a defenseless animal, but unless you're bow hunting in free range land, most of these animals we take are defenseless.
Just my .02.

I don't believe he thinks he's better than anyone. Some people are actually sportsmen who follow the rules and consider the circumstances rather than killing anything on four legs.

Now who looks retarded? You do pal. You do.

Your point? Most of the people who do this suck. That doesn't make killing a swimming deer from a motor vehicle right.

I will admit it's a little fricked up, but it is what it is, it's not as big a deal as some of you are making it out to be.

I am not damning you man. Just wanted you to see that it was messed up. Just pointing out that your reasoning was fricked up when you felt that there was nothing wrong with it. I don't feel that I am being unreasonable.

Oh so you're perfect, never done anything ethically questionable, in a position to preach right and wrong?
And you are probably a Yankee yourself, hence the offense you took. I'm not basing my opinion on Roger from this single thread. He consistently tries to argue his points and views to people, making generalizations about Louisiana people and comparisons to alaskan people. And I never said it was right to shoot the deer, but everybody is going a little overboard with the scolding, which is usually the case with anonymous Internet posters.

Dude just let this thread anchor itself. You're going to get it from every angle, because people love to point out others' faults. The fact of the matter is, you shot the deer in a questionable fashion, but you are putting the deer to good use. If I were you, I would have just kept this harvest to myself.

Technically it might be illegal but I would probably chance it. I dont think many wardens would fuss over a legal deer shot during the season by someone with a license.

You honestly believe this?
