You don't understand the bond between man and dog

Dude, it is crazy how untrue this is. You should really take your own advice on understanding other peoples viewpoints. My dogs are my kids as my wife and I can have none. The one that sleeps on my couch all day is a gun shy feist that spends her days in my lap because she's a little "too crazy" to be functional in the real world. I put my brothers best friend to sleep on Thanksgiving day in my parents dining room while our entire family sat around and cried. He was a Boxer. I put my best friend to sleep 4 years ago. I held him as my vet put him to sleep in the vet clinic where he and I went to work everyday for 5 years. After being in human medicine for 10 years, the only time I have EVER cried with a patient/client was at that vet clinic.

I understand the bond, I also understand the breaking of the bond because I've been there many times with many different people.

Thanks, but I already do. Moreso than you have demonstrated. What you feel doesn't matter. It is what the pet owner feels that matters. Taking his pet away will probably be more traumatic than it would be to you. You are demonstrating an unwillingness to understand or respect others opinions.

Damn Roger, you been drinking at your Christmas party or did you just not read what I said? Never took you for an irrational guy, but whatever.....

And, no, it's not my opinion. I am very well known to be a dog person. Now, if your personal definition of what a "dog person" should be does not fit, well I don't know what to tell you. That's your definition. Or opinion, which ever.

Your stated that the man/dog bond was nothing special, and i simply stated that was your opinion. Which it is...and that is fine. Most people don't share this view.

The whole debate centered around killing pets, which I strictly oppose.

This is the most intense debate the OB has had since the taking a dump in the woods thread...

If I in any way gave this impression, I am sorry, because I do not feel that way. What I did say was that it was my responsibility as a dog owner to ensure that my pet was not imposing of other's rights. If my dog comes into harms way it is my failure as a dog owner to fulfill my obligation to my pet. I also stated that the "shoot a dog" mentality is not alway soundly founded in moral ground, so one shouldn't be so quick to judge the action of others.

Having said this, I will also say that I haven't read this entire thread, so excuse me if my discussion is a little off topic.

I hunt a lot of stands near houses so I see a lot of dogs while on my stand. I would never shoot one because it's just not the way I operate, but I have buddies that do.

ETA: I have buddies that SAY THEY WOULD, but I can't think of one that I can confirm killed.

It is exactly what you said, which is what I responded to.

I spent a couple of winters as a handler (dirty job, volunteer) for a sled dog kennel, and got to know Martin Buser, Dee Dee Jonrowe, Linda Plettner and a few other kennels well. The loss of one dog, out of hundreds in a kennel was tragic to those folk.

If I ever shoot a dog I'm going to make sure it's rogers, tinos, or alx's. And I'm also going to eat it and make sure i don't waste it's meat. Maybe I'll mix it with some cat and make sausage, who knows

My point is that the recent epidemic of personifying pets is directly related to the pussification of America.

Is this where I "said" that? If so, you did not understand what I meant by that statement. My explanation for that is simply that you neglected to attempt to understand the rest of my statements.

While I promise you that I have zero experience with the breeders/enthusiasts you listed I can assure you that I have been involved on some level with many other kennels, from pets to sporting/work dogs. What you say is true with all of these people. Some of those sentiments are deeply grounded in the man/dog relationship dynamic, others are not. I also feel that you are trying to deviate this conversation from the meat and potatoes of said conversation.

I feel that if we met in person, we would probably have a lot in common and see eye to eye on many things. I am also afraid that I may very well find you to be crazy as nine road lizards.

Depends on how you view life and your personal philosophy. If you are like most people associated only with southern culture, probably so.

You really think I was referring to the oath as to why your views don't seem to jive with someone who made a career of taking care of families?

I guess you deal with kids that get annoying after a while and shooting a pet that gets in the way of your hobby is a way to get back at them.
