Once you have held and swung a nice sxs or o/u you will never look at that pump or auto the same way again. They point like a wand...
I would not pay that kind of money for something i don't think i would use. If i can't paddle with it or tote it through the thickets then i have no use for it

Plenty of well used but still nice guns out there without the engraving and nice wood that were the backbone of American hunters before pumps and autos. Names like L.C. Smith, and Fox...

That's what I want. I want one of the old common man's fox shotguns. I like the fancy safe queens, but I would have to get one that I could bring hunting and not feel bad about it.

Something like this, can be picked up at $549 with a buy it now. It has a cracked stock but a little epoxy would take care of that...

I think I'll get one someday, even if I don't have much of a use for it.

You can use it for everything but ducks, the steel shot is a no go...

Now you talking & i could paddle with that

I'd blast some dove with it. Probably wouldn't be bad for deer in the swamp either.

Lots of guns like that out there; the problem is when dealing with 100 year old guns is knowing what problem is the deal breaker. In addition these gun manufacturers changed ownership and build quality over the years. Take for example Fox. Phili guns are the most desirable, followed by Savage, the Fox B models (not to be confused with the B grade) are the lease desirable and came last in production...
People have a heart attack about spending a couple of thousand on a fine shotgun that will hold its value and can be passed down in the family, but have no problem dropping thousands on ATVs, trucks and boats. Not that there is a problem with that but those items depreciate and are almost worthless after 15 years...

I want something like that but in 16 or 28 gauge. I like oddball shite.

I like being able to easily find shells

Sub gauge guns (anything not a 12) hold a premium, especially in old American guns. The 16 can be found, the 28 in old guns are almost nonexistent. A field grade Parker in 28 will run you around $20k. Most of the guns being made and sold 100-120 years ago were putting game on the table and the 12 was very popular, not so much on for the other gauges. Newer guns from Italy or Spain are good quality and everywhere...

Guns that old hold up to smokeless powder?

I spend a little more for quality shells made for older guns and have them delivered to the house. A case runs around $100, but I don't do much target practice so the cost is a non factor...

Yea, I don't reload and like to get shells from RST, performance without the pressure...

Dad has a semiauto 16 ga from my grandpa, he got it reblued a long time ago, he would shoot cut shells out of it for a while but a gunsmith told him shooting modern shells out of a gun that old will end up blowing up the barrel or something, because of the smokeless powder they use nowadays

Think about it like this, these shotguns for over a hundred years have been feed every type of shell, but they deserve better and the wood is old, so I feed them something a little better...
ETA - Just noticed that was post 3000...
