I don't know if you want to move out of state but there was a great job opening near me just out side of Huntsville Al. It was the manager of the Madison County Lake housing would be provided and you would be living out in the country but close to a decent size city of Huntsville. Don't know if the position has been filled or not.

We moved to our current location out here in the sticks 30+ years ago. I grew weary of living in the city where the houses were like biscuits in a pan. Initially bought 35 acres with 20 cleared and 15 wooded and later purchased 123 acres more of woods. All I had was a chainsaw and a push mower. Gradually bought the equipment I needed to keep the pasture cleared and fenced it in for cattle. I was in my mid 30's then and I was much more able to take care of everything than I can now . 30+ years later not nearly as easy to do, but I still love the privacy. I quit the cattle business, sell the hay every year and cut enough firewood for the winter. It's about a 35 minute drive to town, but after 30+ years, that 35 minutes doesn't seem very long at all. Gives me time to unwind. Do it while you're young enough to really enjoy the privacy and solitude. And just remember, it's 35 minutes to get a gallon of milk.

I'm actually looking for a small tract 20 acres +/- in the Tylertown area. It start off as a weekend place, but maybe eventually I'd move up there.

I'm headed to western Carolina mountains next year . Much farther along than you obviously no financial worries. Can't wait to get the fuk away from heat bugs and humidity . Only decisions will be to fish that day or play golf.

I'd say do it while your young enough so that your health and old age doesn't hinder you. I love living in a rural area. Enjoy my horses, mowing pasture, and all the chores that come with a little property. . But as I get older and things that ache take longer to stop aching, I can see trying to maintain all of this will just be too much. I'm looking forward more and more to a fishing camp or place on a nice beach.

I'm about to do the same thing. I've had my fill of suburban life. We are about to take a drive through the Ozarks and find a new place to call home. You only live once.

I live over 40 miles from work. 10 miles from a gas station. Last night I was outside at midnight in boxers and etnies hunting Armadillos in the garden with an AR.
I'm north of you in the atchafalaya basin.
It's quiet.
