Trim motor question

Motor quit trimming, getting voltage to motor. Pulled it apart and it’s pretty dirty from the worn brushes. What’s the best thing to clean and lubricate the internals?

New motors are dirt cheap, don't bother cleaning just replace

My trim is on the fritz. How hard are they to replace in the backyard with basic tools?

Not hard. You are going to need something to hold the lower unit up when you pull the trim unit off to remove the trim motor. I hang mine with a chain fall. Don’t go too high because the engine will flop over.

There will be a youtube video on whatever your motor is.

Thanks. Not an overly heavy outboard (135 2stroke) but don’t have access to any overhead chains. I’ll need to formulate a plan as to how to keep the lower unit raised. It’s been a bear trying to get the manual trim release screw to turn. Have a wider head slot driver coming in the mail today.
