Clinch River. Is that the same Clinch that flows just north of Knoxville? Pretty water, but isn't it creosote filled up to some point near Knoxville? Then there's a dam or reservoir (well, both), and it's good from that point? I think it's Norris Lake, if I'm not mistaken.

Yep, that's the same river, Fishhead. Still is one of the most primitive rivers in the southeast, though. Buddy of mine has been catchin some BIG muskies from the Clinch River the past month. Never had heard of any creosote pollution in it. North fork of the Holston River had a mercury spill in from Saltville, Virginia about 40 years ago. Maybe that's what you heard?

You guys have some of my cousins in Bristol, Johnson City Nd Kingsport. Great area around there. As for the Abington area, I've pulled more than a few trout out of some creeks east of there and had a couple of great fly trips on the Watagua.

That Watauga is a pretty river, too. Some big trout there. Watauga is where the Overmountain militia took off from and whupped the King's redcoats in South Carolina. They didn't take kindly to King George's threats to march into Watauga and kill them and their families.

Would love to get back up there for another float trip. My oldest boy and I caught just over 70 trout in a 4 hour trip there several years ago.

ETA: Partially joking. Beautiful country down there. I dream of retiring in a place like SWVA.

You're correct. The Holston is what I'm thinking of. The Clinch does make Norris Lake, but the Holston is the one I'm thinking about that crosses the interstate N of Knoxville.
Spent 13 months working up there between April 2011 and May 2012.

The trick to fishing Boone is to not use anything bigger than 8 lb. test line. Took me a few years to figger that out...
