No. The tweet is the tweet. It just happens to contain the video. Watching the video is an option. If you did not opt to watch the video, you did not view the video.

People are talking more about what counts as a view than the actual interview

It’s pretty telling.

Well maybe Twitter will release the number of video views, but until then this is what we have. Even if only 25% of that number actually watched the full video, that's still a massive number.

Someone can sit there and hit refresh and rack up the count.

Almost if it were done knowingly that it would end up on nearly everyone's feed if they wanted to view it or not. Twitter has a "For You" feed that it defaults to giving you tweets from people you don't follow. You didn't have to follow Tucker for that video to end up in your feed.

Not surprisingly, the latest talking point is an inflated number that should have a huge arse asterisk next to it. Nothing about policy or anything, just a number.

This depends where you start "always." Go back to the Nixon/Kennedy debates and it's night and day different.

I was specifically referencing just Fox. Yeah, the regression of TV media in general is part of the story, but my point was more specific to them vis a vis their initial appeal to be sort of the Republican "alternative" to the rest of the media.

That's why presidential debates don't interest me.

It does not have 181 million views,

I sure you are correct. What benefit is that for a video? Why not have a algorithm coded to record a view at maybe a 80-90 percent completion rate instead?

Only because no one's talking about the Fox News debate.

So did someone link you directly to this thread or how did you manage to navigate the first page of the political board while completely ignoring just about every other post?

I mean...this board is great for people who like to follow politics, but let's not pretend people who don't like to follow politics were watching last night's debate.

For example, you could look at a Tweet on web and then on your phone, and that would count as two views.

Isn't that how they tabulated the votes in Georgia and Arizona?

The X metric only measures the number of people who saw the post, even fleetingly. It does not measure how many actually watched the interview, or how long it was watched, with platform owner Elon Musk having removed the ability to measure video views earlier this year.

Oh but those same people most certainly watched Trumps interview?

Respectfully, you just described the people that would have been interested in both of these events.

It's August 2023 and it's regarding an election 15 months from now. This is like tabulating Spring Game attendance numbers...of course the people interested now are junkies.

Your quote agrees with my statement. It is the number of views.

True statement, but people who hate politics are more likely to watch an interview with Trump. Far more people would have watched the debate if he had attended, which is why it was a good strategy for him not to attend. Him showing up could have only helped his opponents.
