quote:Do you think that man has not changed since he was created? Did the fall of Adam do nothing to his status before God? What about creation, itself? Rom. 8:19-23 says that even creation--which was also fallen due to Adam (Gen. 3:17-19)--groans in expectation for the glory to come, when even the earth will be destroyed and glorified, as our new bodies will be (2 Pet. 3:13; Rev. 21:1).quote:Ok, first I'd love to see some of those scripture passages, I'm not saying they aren't there, but I would suspect that it speaks of man's fallen nature, not the foundational nature God gives all human beings.
[Man] isn’t [good], and this is plain from the scriptures
When man was created, he could not die. Now he can, but not only that, but he has imperfections in body and mind as well as soul. Our bodies break and ache; our reasoning is flawed; our emotions are often times uncontrolled towards sin; our desires are for idols; our memories fade and mental faculties pass away. All of life points to the fall of man and the need for rebirth through Christ.
In Matthew 19:16-20, Jesus responds to the rich man seeking eternal life that no one is good but one (Jesus), and demonstrates this with a test where the rich man thought he obeyed the law perfectly but wasn't willing to part with his possessions and follow Christ.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). No one does good (Rom. 3:12; Ps. 14:3; 53:3).
How then can you say we are still good? Did God create us and all creation good? If so, then has anything changed? I'd say the fall has changed everything, which is why we need to be saved from our sins through faith in Jesus Christ, and it's why we will one day have new bodies that are perfect and incorruptible; and it's also why even the earth will be restored in the future.
quote:I'd say sin corrupts more than our nature.
God cannot create anything evil
God created man
Therefore Man is good, but after his creation man has fallen, meaning he has corrupted his nature.
So again I believe man is good in himself but the presence of sin corrupts our nature.
No one is arguing whether or not God created man good. The question is whether or not we are still good, and good in the sense that God meant it when He had completed His work of creation. I'd say "no", for the reasons above.
