We are discussing a legal standard and I am positing that deviation from a scientific basis for this standard would necessarily be arbitrary.
Wrong.

That is what I replied to. Then you jumped in. If you want to alter the discussion, you need to be more clear when making your points.
quote:
When, in your opinion, does personhood get bestowed and why?
Between conception and birth. It isn't a simple answer and would be best served by a separate discussion.

Correct, and the emotionally charged pushback makes their job even easier.

quote:Possibly but the possibility of it being overturned is greater now than it has been in a long time.
Roe v Wade isn’t going anywhere. No chance.
quote:That would be an improvement. Also, it would allow other states to limit abortions further, ultimately (hopefully) lowering the overall number of legal abortions performed.
Even if it did abortion would still be legal in like 48 states.

You clearly haven't read the rest of the thread and I have no interest in leading you by the nose through a 10 page discussion.
ETA: In fact your response to the quote you started with directly opens the conversation to the question of personhood:
quote:
OK, but your DNA sequence doesn't make you a person.
honestly at this point you're just ducking the issue and we can only speculate as to why

I have, but that isn't relevant. You jumped in the middle of a separate conversation. When I answered your questions, you fell back to juvenile behavior because I hurt your feelings.

Dude, stay on track here. Your complaint was that you were trying to discuss things from a legal viewpoint. I pointed something out for you. fricking pay attention...

I'm simply not allowing you to drive the discussion, especially when you act like a child when you don't get your way.

this doesn't speak highly of your reading comprehension.

I am definitely not the one having difficulty following the conversation.
"The question of personhood would be better served in a separate conversation, also I have read the entire thread"
Like I said, I have no interest in leading you by the nose through a 10 page thread. When you're all caught up, my positions are out there for you to refute if you wish. I won't be holding my breath.

Yes, you are. I don't have time right now, but if you ask politely, I'm more than happy to clarify everything that happened for you later.

I don't care about your positions right now. That should be apparent since I never asked about them. We're still working on helping you understand the discussion. If you can't follow something this simple, I have no interest in your positions on anything.

your replies have been one long string of "I know you are, but what am I"
weak
You mentioned earlier that I "would not enjoy" engaging in a conversation with you. So far that's the only correct thing you've said in this thread.

Don't waste your energy. There are others here who are willing to have a discussion about the substance of the issue.
I'll be happy when RvW gets overturned and the states can take a more active role in limiting the massacre that happens in this country on a daily basis.

When you are unable to follow a conversation or admit that you are wrong, this is exactly what you'll get.
Next time you jump in to something, figure out what's going on first.

I got a question for anyone. How do I react to a female that had no qualms about telling me she had an abortion and seemed a little proud of the fact and then about a year or so later she was seeking sympathy for a miscarriage?
Since this person obviously has some emotional connection to you, you react with compassion and sympathy. Share the gospel with her.

This is your first post in the thread:
At this point the question of personhood was well trod already, so I have no idea how you got the impression that it would be off-topic. Furthermore you comically accuse me of attempting to direct the conversation. You brought up the question of personhood with your very first post in this thread!
... regardless within 5 or 6 posts, you were ready to pull the ripcord:
Honestly man, your shtick is weak, be better.
I mean ffs:

Just for the sake of understanding, what is your definition of personhood?

According to google: the quality or condition of being an individual person. That was precisely my point. Our DNA sequence is what makes us individual and unique.

Good work. Now take a look at the post that I replied to, and work your way through the conversation you decided to join. I'm here if it gets confusing.
Everything you posted after that is irrelevant.

Yep already did that, in fact I edited my post to include the entire string of quotes leading up to your first post. Maybe you would like to read the thread and stop showing your arse now?

No you didn't. You couldn't even get the replies in the right order.
Like I said, ask questions if you you need to.

Are you serious clark?
Do you not know how to follow replies on TD?
I did skip out the bickering between us, but everything is in the correct order, starting at "ffs:"
