No, pedophila is not at all related to temporal (time) context. Pedophilia was more acceptable in Biblical days than it is now, broadly speaking.

"Better", to me, means anything which benefits humans and minimizes pain/suffering. I think science can inform us on things which we should value.

Science is a method used to understand how the world works. Gender can be studied in a scientific manner.
