I never really paid attention to who believed what in high school and I hang out with all of the above as long as they weren't an asshat.
But, if I compare my friends in high school to what they turned out to be, I would say it has more to do with working class people who had a job through school and were active in some sort of extracurricular activity turned out middle to conservative whereas the less social turned out more liberal.
Just my observation from the limited example of the friends I still have contact with.
