I suppose it is a reasonable question to ask.
Should counties be able to exempt themselves from state law by electing someone how vows not to enforce it? Also a reasonable question.

There is a wide gray area between “prosecutorial discretion” and “ignoring certain state laws.” This is the sort of case which helps to narrow that gray area.
Which is why it will be an interesting case to watch.

And that Constitution does allow the governor to suspend a DA who has already failed to do his job. It is far less clear that a governor may act preemptively because he thinks a DA will later fail to do so.
Yeah, we'll see about that.

The Florida Supreme Court ruled in a 2017 case that prosecutorial discretion does not allow state attorneys to make blanket statements that they will not prosecute certain types of crimes, and must make decisions on a case-by-case basis.
You also had Hillsborough County law enforcement outlining things Warren has already done. And Warren thinks he's going into a Republican controlled Florida Senate or appealing to the courts and walking out with a job?
Yeah, I don't think so. I think this will go the same way as the handful of other incompetent officials he's removed from office.

Warren’s statements eliminated the gray.

You're out here siding with Andrew Warren over Ron DeSantis.

You cited a Yahoo article?
Kidding. It was reasonably well-written. My recollection is that the 2017 case was not preemptive. The sheriff said some things at the press conference, but the were not included in Desantis’ Order.
Again, it will be interesting.

Can a governor suspend an elected DA for talking a big game, and then never doing anything? I don’t know. That is not how I personally read the constitutional provision in question, but it will be interesting to see it play out.
People tend to forget that these sorts of provisions can cut both ways. Look at California recently adopting Texas “bounty“ approach to private enforcement of state abortion policy and then applying it to guns.
More directly on point, look at all the sheriffs who have announced “gun sanctuary“ status in their counties… basically saying that they are not going to enforce statewide gun regulations.
Could a Dem governor in those states do exactly the same thing to those sheriffs that DeSantis is doing to Warren in this case?

Pulled that from the Tampa Bay Times.
It was also cited in the EO.

The EO generically cites Warren's policy of refusing to prosecute certain crimes.
But, I don't think it's even necessary. Under Florida law, I don't think Warren stands a chance.
