Our own federal union did not originally have a national military, relying upon the separate military forces of the member states.

Then we decided to change that.

Its almost like if a union provides for common defense, that an actual collective defense apparatus is needed. Weird, huh.

The reasoning for this is obvious. The border states and the Med countries like Italy and Greece are tired of footing the responsibility and costs for dealing with the migrant issues.

???

The people at the top are appointed

With the full throated support of those nations (inb4 you point to only Hungary and Poland's migrant disagreements with Brussels)

They're terrified of being blacklisted and having massive trade barriers imposed on them if they leave.

They want one. Simple as that.

How is that a problem in any way? Where is the danger? How does this impact you or the United States in any way? They clearly see a benefit in mounting an EU-wide response to migrant, border, and peacekeeping missions. Many of the militaries in the EU cannot do anything outside their borders without cooperation or assistance from others.

These forces will almost certainly be used to police the citizens and enforce policies of the EU and not some existential external threat. I can 100% see how the people of Europe would be extremely wary of having yet another layer of the state to violently keep them in line.

They are elected by entities who are directly elected by the populations of the member states.

You realize that our own executive branch is also indirectly elected, right?

Which nation in Europe would benefit from leaving the EU? It certainly isn't any of the smaller nations.

Zero basis for this belief.

This could be easily solved by the EU changing or enforcing laws, but it's far more advantageous for them to create yet another group with the right to use violence.

Creating a military apparatus is changing its laws.

Again, where does this idea that this force will be some weird and very thinly spread gendarmerie coming from?

And our original Senate, as well.

I do not keep a spreadsheet, but I would be rather surprised if Upgrayedd is not one of the posters who hates the 17th Amendment.

They're appointed by their governments.

I'm sure there are many that would like to see bureaucratic restriction removed as a result of leaving.

How so?

. This is Breitbart citing a German news article. Does anyone have any idea what the article actually said? Breitbart is pretty famous for misquoting articles.

b. The EU has been saying they're going to form a military since I was in undergrad, 20 years ago. Farage wasn't onto some new, hidden policy and that policy always fails to materialize.

I could give 2 fricks about any of that. How many billions is this EU shite going to cost taxpayers so inflation doesn't go up? That's the logic for the Ukraine war.
