They have to have an industrial base, a means to cultivate skilled labor, and stable governments to win, though. They have none of that.
Yeah, sure. But they are still screwing like rabbits and likely don’t even realize there is a more civilized and comfortable world out there.

My only point is energy and resources play a bigger factor than demographics. The more energy and resources you have and the ability to harness those energy and resources the more inverted your demographic pyramid can be.
You still need a population who can sustain that economic model, which is the problem. EVEN IF you could supply the workers for your resource extraction/processing AND necessities (agriculture), you won't have the society elsewhere to circulate money and create commerce.
So you have workers making some money who can't spend it, which will just cause supply-based inflation, making the salary much less valuable.
Your best bet is to end up like Saudi Arabia, where the ruling family benefits and everyone else gets crumbs of crumbs. Kind of what is going on in Russia, but amplified.

What? They're trying to mimic that world.
It just takes time to develop an economy in society. You have to start low and allow the population to advance and scale up.
The signal of that initial lower-level economic growth is the very population boom you're referencing. Same stuff happened everywhere once the abundance of basic needs was first realized.
The problem for these countries is that if the developed world (and its institutions, culture, technology, etc.) fall before those developing nations can "take the torch", then there is no scaling and no market for the goods created at the lower levels they're currently at.

They are just unable to get cheap power, due to Climate Change bullshite. . .and they don't even own their own resources.
The US was the only economically colonizing force that provided relatively beneficial outcomes for the indigenous populations (while, admittedly not 100% of the time). But the US moved out, and China moved in. . .and China has been raping the frick out of them.
If the indigenous pops owned their resources, Congo would be one of the wealthiest nations in the world. Think about that for a second.

I don’t have anything new to contribute to this debate but it was absolutely driving me nuts while watching this. I kept watching to figure out who his voice reminded me of. Coincidentally, I recently started a rewatch of Silicon Valley and it finally hit me. . .

The guy made some great insights and connected some dots on the JRE show but he also seems a bit delusional in many cases. He made some bold predictions and claims and presented them as fact.
He also seems to trap himself in some logical fallacies. His takes on the drug war is a great example of this. You could see how perplexed JR was but he didn't push too hard on it.

You have to consider how the destabilization of the countries mentioned will affect the rest of the world

Our society has already collapsed - we can’t define women and we prop up the worst perverts among us.

quote:Again, what does that mean? Certainly not per capita, which is what matters.
It means they will have the world's highest ranking economy.
The "leading economy" construct of yours is just irrelevant. The US has an insurmountable lead in terms of per capita GDP. The US has quasi-energy independence. The US has abundant clean, fresh water. The US is already tackling its demographic monster of aging Baby Boomers - and at least has Medicare and SS. China has NOTHING in place for its coming wave of geriatrics. And, again, the average person in China is a pitifully poor peasant.
They might not be "fricking around", but through their own stupidity, they have certainly fricked around and found out a lot already.
