Part of what you're doing is taking different things he has said at very different points of his life and tried to make it out like he published all this at one time. His views have changed over the years and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't agree with him on everything and I don't support socialism, libertarian or otherwise. But ultimately his contributions to media criticism and his very poignant critiques of the United States system of government have been spot on and if both were more well known I think people on both sides of the fence would have a better understanding of what kind of a country we really live in and might actually take some steps to change that.

Popular among us politards.
Have you ever asked a random person if they've heard of Sowell or Chomsky? The VAST majority have no clue who these people are.
However, I still agree that Woods is far less popular than the others mentioned.

well i'll give you the biggest reason why i don't like noam and other thinkers of his ilk
in terms of socio-economic-political theories, there are 2 main groupings:
1. those who see humans as independent and capable of making their own decisions
2. those who see humans as sheep who need herding
all differences boil down to how far down each spectrum you fall
noam falls squarely into group 2

SFP, have you seen the debate portion at the end of his documentary "State Against Blacks"? He DESTROYS Charlie Rangel. Here's a clip

Well #1 that's quite an oversimplification and #2 I don't think he feels that way at all. But again for the purposes of this thread I'm less interested in his political philosophies as much as I am his political observations.

Speaking of Rothbard, does anyone here have a link to him debating? I've seen his lectures and read some of his stuff, but I've never seen or read a debate of his.
I would love to read this.
Rothbard is pretty much the father of anarcho-capitalism. The more I read about it, the less of a moral objection I have to it. It's a good goal to obtain. It's merely a practical objection for me at this point. A completely voluntary and stateless society is something I wish was possible but I don't think human nature can uphold that big of a responsibility.
All it takes is for one charismatic, suave and manipulative individual to make the whole thing come crashing down.

the Nino Brown problem!

I'm always wary of "either/or" setups (like the ridiculous alpha/beta nonsense the OT is obsessed with), and that goes at least double or triple for something as complex as socio-economic-political theories.

Yep.
Everyday I find myself inching closer and closer to that side of the spectrum.

This is the only issue I have with an-caps.
Do they really have an answer for this?

it's 2 groups, with a healthy amount of possibility of shifting, which i had stated

look it's a big joke over there, but that's basic biology and evolutionary traits examined

why?
you need building blocks for all major ideas/observations. at the LEAST, you can think about it along these lines
i see the world in shades of grey, but if you have no principles, you have nothing to say. this applies to noam also

if they do then the last few remaining communists out there would like a word.

no
and i'd imagine they haven't spent much time around charismatic alpha males who are obsessed with power and use violence to get it

David Friedman or Jeffrey Tucker.

The more practical among us are working on a viable model city/seastead that would alleviate fears, rather than convince people to just 'give us a shot'.

Sure but that doesn't necessarily include bright line labels for people when discussing complex subject matter. If you want to say everyone is either a Beatles guy or an Elvis guy I can live with that but come on just saying that someone who doesn't share your particular social construction theories must "view people as sheep" is an unfair position.
