By all means, keep doubling down with the hyperbole.

The means part. The cost of things like a home or even utilities are far outpacing wages. As someone mentioned earlier, these "starter homes" are likely in the $300k range right now. So much for a starter home.

So? Are you arguing that being able to purchase a home is an inalienable right?

It's really easy to blame generations for the shite show this country has become, but all you really have to do to get the answer of who the biggest current problem is is look at the ages of those who run the country.

My point is I am not blaming any generation or any one person for anything. I do however think the current generation is the only generation in our short history who does blame their life circumstance on economic difficulties.

Personal accountability and hard work have conquered economically difficult times and always will.

You don’t think kids are working 2 jobs now just to pay the RENT?

Entirely depends on your career field. I started out at $43k out of college. Kids out of college now, in my field, are making 65kish range.

Lower your aim, sport. $400k is not "modest". And METRO might be a sign that you should move to the burbs if you MUST OWN A HOME AT 24 YEARS OLD.

So this person makes 40% more than you did, but rent and house prices have quadrupled (at least).

Who’s better off?

The person who, like just about everyone here, rented out of college and saved their money, and didn't buy a home in a time of market volatility. This isn't hard to understand Eli.

The fact that a 20 something thinks they deserve a 400k house is laughable

Well...the point is the entry level house 20 years ago was 140k

Now its 400....

That the exact scenario here in Wake County...

I was 30 when I bought my first house for 130k.... I think I was making 50k....

Sounds like some poor choices were made.

I'm confused - are you asking that we subsidize bad choices?

No you wouldn’t.
Well…maybe in Louisiana

what does their current apartment rent cost them? and what is the issue with them continuing to rent in this apartment until they can afford a home they want?

It’s not really that crazy. Anything under $400k in Houston city limits will be a townhome or condo. You aren’t getting a yard for under $400k.

Suburbs are more reasonably priced but the ones with good school districts are high as well.

I also don’t understand the rush to buy a house. Lots of it is peer pressure. I’m 28 and don’t feel the need to buy right now. If I save appropriately I’ll be ready within two years, three max.

You still haven't explained why the idea of renting and saving is such a preposterous notion. Especially being fresh out of school.

Describe the jobs.

Are you talking about 20 hours a week at Target and then two nights of Uber driving?

I have a hard time believing you can't get a starter house in the Nashville metro area for under $250k. Regardless, I would not have bought a house for $250k on a $55k yearly salary.

Most entry level positions (with degrees) are paying 45k.

Average rent on a one bedroom apartment is $1400 to live in a safe area.

You do the math.

They're being disingenuous. It should be "starter homes I WANT start at $400K."
