It started way before the 1990’s.I graduated nursing school in 1975.Around 1977-78 cardiologist was in ICU talking about trip he and his wife took to Bermuda deep sea fishing, what a good time they had and best thing it didn’t cost them a penny.
One of the nurses asked why it was free.He goes on to explain the pacemaker company paid for it.He explained the whole deal,he got points for every pacer he put in,more expensive the pacer the more points he got.Points could be cashed in for merchandise such as televisions, etc.or trips.Like frikken green stamps for those old enough to remember that.
Young idealistic me ,it was shocking.I was appalled at his lack of ethics and also his lack of discretion. Most Drs. kept it quiet around non-physicians.It certainly began the destruction of my notions of medicine as a noble profession.
Later on I became acquainted with a few drug reps, the stories they told were mind-boggling (to me) of the lengths they went to bribe Drs.
The result is now the situation Drs. find themselves in where every surgery, procedure, imaging etc. has to have pre approval.
The medical profession has no one to blame but themselves as they were raping the system for the first years of Medicare.
Thanks for sharing

What I really took away from this thread is how much time doctors have during the weekday to argue anonymously with strangers on the internet. I thought these guys were supposed to be super duper busy all day
Smackoverhog is the only honest doctor on this board

BamaATL and Crazy4LSU will say you are a liar.
Doctors are above reproach and are pure as the driven snow.
EVERY decision they make is based SOLELY on what is best for the patient and the promise of baubles and bangles would NEVER influence the decision of a Medical professional.
Further, they would never, ever, ever lie, nor would they knowingly push "studies" that are "shaky" at best.
Thanks for sharing what we already knew.

Now, if a "lowly" cardiologist was getting this kind of scwag, IMAGINE what Fauci and his crew are getting.
