the guy you quoted said hearings are new, not a vote to confirm.
True to form as some manner of "educator", your reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired. It's no wonder our schools are lucky to crack the top 50 in World education scores.
The tweet I referenced said the sway that the confirmation hearing process has has evolved over time, not the hearing process itself.
My hunch about the NPR tote bags was spot on.

Ad hominem attacks show a weakness in your position.
You may not like it, or think it should be this way, but--- the Senate does have to power to deny a nomination.
Yes I know it is trendy and performative to bash educators, so I hope you feel better.
BTW- since you have such a thing about tote bags, I will let you know that I do not have any from anywhere.

Considering as a matter of history only nine cabinet nominations have been denied by the Senate and 10 have withdrawn their nominations, the Senate confirmation process has been a pro forma courtesy.
I'm old enough to remember when most approval votes fell 97-3 or something similar.
It's only been during our recent spate of hyperpartisan jackassery of the last quarter century that things have gotten super super contentious, with the Senate confirmation process demonstrating some manner of weaponization.
I'm also old enough to remember somebody In the oval office doing a victory lap after they were said to have been reelected, pointing out "Elections have consequences."
Cabinet secretaries that scare the ever-loving shite out of a corrupt Capitol Hill would be a shining example of those very consequences.

I am old enough to remember all that too. In fact I watched the hearings where the Nixon nominations where voted down. And yes it has become more partisan, but that does not change that the Senate still has that power.
I think if they had stayed with Gaetz we would have seen a denied nomination. I like Bondi better anyway.
I hope they all pass
