There's no assumption here. The Temple has to be rebuilt for the Abomination of Desolation to occur. A mosque sits upon the place the Temple is to be built. If you have information this has already taken place, I'm sure every Bible scholar and Theologian would be interested in your evidence.

It's impossible today even in the ops scenario. Population too dense in unrelated areas (China, India, America's, etc) to wipe out 2/3rd.
Most likely antichrist was Lil Nero and it meant 2/3rds of Chosen People (early Christians of Rome) wiped out.
