Didn't this happen in congress within the past few years. I forget what the administration official was called to testify for, but she read an opening statement denying her culpability, or that she did anything wrong, then ended her statement by pleading the 5th and refusing to answer any questions. The Republicans were furious, claiming she had waited her right to plead the 5th since she declared her innocence. I'll try to research this and get a better sense of when it was.

I think the vigilantes probably were racist, and it may have factored in their decision making. ALtho due to the facts we know, their actions were entirely divorced from reason and used exessive force. the situation makes it seem more possible it was an emotional response potential tied to racist bias. Driving around a truck with a guy wielding a gun in the bed is a terrible look and I understand why people would jump to racist claims.
but yea its nonsense to say shite like they were out to hunt a black person. I dont think it really adds anything meaningful to their crimes either way bc they are facing felony murder either way.

Nevermind the fact that they were trying to stop that someone for a theft that happened weeks ago. (they admitted having no knowledge of any ongoing crime). How motivated would you be to grab guns and pull them on someone you didnt even know was involved in a petty theft that didnt involve you that happened weeks ago? Their reasoning is very disproportionate to their response.
