Go home without pay? I work for the federal government and everytime we have shut down we have been paid for it. Only the furlough under Obama we were not paid for but that was not a shut down. Actually now that I think about it , we have never even had to wait to be paid. The shutdowns have always ended with in the pay period and we just got free vacation basically.

No, you should be overly pissed that they are shutting it down, but still sending money and weapons to Ukraine!!!!!!! Talk about shitting on this country!

Once we pass a bill to send more money to Ukraine, you can shut down whatever you like.

as a government employee, it's always infuriating to watch these idiots this time of year. They use us as pawns, then when they can't agree on shite, we go home without pay, but they still get paid.
There's never been a government shutdown where you haven't been paid.

Thank you for confirming the federal government is a massive drain on taxpayers that provides nothing of tangible value for us.
I hope Trump gets elected and fires you.

True...at the end. But theoretically, we could go weeks without being paid. Don't be dense.

Oh look, the generic "you're a lazy government employee even though I don't actually know you" retort. How original.

Ignorance is bliss. Yes, there are parts of the government that are bloated and useless. I work for the USDA...go ask a farmer how useless and bloated that agency is. Spoiler: you won't like the answer.
The irony of it is that rural (farming) America votes Conservative, all while lining up at the door of USDA offices for government assistance. And that's who I work for. Not ignorant city dwellers that just see "government" and immediately think "useless, no benefit".
BTW, I also vote Conservative, and unlike you seem to believe, no Conservative is interested in getting rid of my job or my agency. And I don't work for the government because of the job security, either. That's just a perk. But contrary to popular belief, people can and do get fired from the government all the time if the Supervisor actually gives a damn. Mine does, so you have to stay on your toes around here.

For one, the cost of food would likely increase substantially if it weren't for government subsidies, crop insurance programs, and financial assistance programs.
This is factually incorrect. There are “better” arguments to make even though there is never a good argument for subsidies and price controls. They hurt poor people to benefit the rich - it is morally reprehensible.

Theoretically, the moon could crash into the Earth next week.

I PROMISE that I would love to have a functional government where this "generic retort" wasn't accurate, but I'd love to be married to a non-psycho Asian woman. Too bad both are impossible.

There is zero governmental action that would not be more functionally and ethically resolved by the private sector.

The ACTUAL irony of your statement is that government creates virtually all of the conditions and causes that necessitate government handouts, but you are too ate up with government to understand that.

I live in the middle of nowhere on 10 acres and plant an acre of it while keeping a few goats and chickens on the remainder. My grandparents had over 100 head of beef cattle when I was a kid. My great-grandfather STARTED the dairy cattle business in Washington Parish, including getting Borden to open a milk bottling plant im Franklinton, although it has since shut down... mostly because you cannot make any money as a small farmer.
So I'm quite well aware of the USDA, farming, and everything involved in the business.

That's rich considering most government regulation, especially in the natural resources and environmental sector, come from unethical behavior in the private sector.
My first private sector job (and nearly every job I've been approached about since moving to the public sector) only exists because of government regulation.
The sad fact is, the natural resources we have today wouldnt existing without government intervention. And anyone that says otherwise is blind or ignorant. I would love it if my field did not exist, at least not in the capacity it does now, but that will never be reality.
