In the end I guess that makes us the dumbasses.

Yep, pretty much.

Back when we were fighting for independence, the royal families of Europe scoffed at our idea of democracy and said that mob rule wouldn't work.

They may have been right.

oo bad he didn;t say he had no cajones to deliver real gun control and Universal health Care. I agree that you can't be in the Lindsey Graham/McCain camp of blow up everybody and also you cant be an isolationist and stick your head in the sand.

They were.

Alas, it is probably just as accurate to say long term rule of any sort doesn't work.

Even if you get the absolute saint of a king who ascends to power because the people place him there and love him. No guarantee he doesn't produce utter spoiled assholes as children who one day become kings or queens.

I've always said. The absolute BEST form of government is probably a largely benevolent dictator/king. Unfortunately, that fricker isn't immortal. And, all of the reasons that make a benevolent dictator the best form of govt make an a-hole dictator the WORST form.,

Choose your term. We need a happy medium case by case. We can't hide from the world but we can't blow up Ukraine, Syria and send troops in everywhere.

Nothing awesome about this weak individual. Few in the military respect him and to have to salute someone who has so lack of respect for what they do must be so demeaning to them. A true leader takes responsibility for his mistakes...this guy passes the buck over and over again!

You're not alone in saying that, it is said by all the political scientists/historians.

Choose your term.

First they have to be defined.

"Isolationist" implies economic as well as military isolationism. "Non-interventionist" is simply military isolationism.

The problem comes in when those of us who simply want to trade with reputable partners globally without having to sacrifice the lives of our young for the security of foreign nations are accused of Isolationism. The fact is that I am staunchly against tariffs for controlling trade between nations. That is an inherent part of isolationism, restricting TRADE.

In short, I support non-interventionism, I oppose isolationism.
