re: Sonic commercials very woke

Exactly. Thanks. I just don't understand why people get so worked up about the racial make up in commercials. Who cares? Well, it does seem to be more people than I would have thought. I can’t imagine just watching a commercial and getting twisted out of shape about interracial couples. "They got all that race mixing going on". So what.

Tough shite, turn the tv off or breed a dozen dirty white kids with some trailer park slore and stfu.
Damn, you might want to switch to decaf. Is some racism ok?

Hmm. Let's think about that for a second. If, as we all agree, none of us have a problem with interracial relationships, then the objective response would be "no," I suppose.
I'm sure we're both ok with white people, but I can't imagine either of us would say that there wouldn't be a problem if the only people in media and in commercials were white.
Perhaps you really believe what you say, but I'd certainly have a problem with only white people being in media and commercials.
quote:
Unless you're also the type to criticize when couples of different hair color are portrayed together. Because as far as relationship compatibility goes, it's about the same level of importance.
Agreed, but the woke crowd sees race. Again, even Cartoon Network is saying you gotta see race. This is more than just a 'marketing thing'.
quote:
Nah. Unless you can point to a more marked growth in our nation's history. Keeping in mind Loving v. Virginia was just over 50 years ago.
Having 50 years of precedent is hardly unprecedented, especially when we're speaking about current events (commercials/ads in the last 3ish years).
quote:
Not a gotcha at all. I'm not the one upset about "overrepresentation" here. Others itt are. Yet when I ask where an acceptable threshold is supposed to be, I get crickets. Can't saddle me with a "gotcha" on this one, man.
What would be the magical minimum threshold of representation in ads that must be met for the apparently fragile sensibilities of American society not to be upset?
quote:
Why? And, keep in mind, that number is steadily climbing year over year, yet people are STILL bitching.
Because I think the population should roughly be represented in media. Again, I'd have issues with only whites being represented even though I have no issue with white people in general.
quote:
Stupid equivalence. Eschew it.
Show why it's irrelevant to our discussion first.
quote:
Why must I be upset to make an observation that something is myopic? Come on
quote:
Incorrect. You attempted to compare a relatively fixed population to one that is experiencing it's most marked growth in our nation's history, with no signs of slowing down. It was a terrible comparison.
Can I compare apples to oranges if I'm speaking about fruit? Just because you can find a difference between the things I'm comparing doesn't mean they're not comparable within the context of the discussion I'm having.
I'm talking about intersectionality, and race is certainly part of that. End of story.
quote:
If only that were the argument I made. Alas, for you, it was not. Try again.
Feel free to point out your counter argument then. And don't expand upon it now, stick to quoting this post since you're saying you made the argument (not assertion) there.

Was that too much? I was just trying to make the point that if you think they're trying to socially engineer less of whitey, maybe you should have more kids as a counterbalance.
Posted on 3/14/21 at 6:39 pm to Saint Alfonzo
quote:
Yeah, you're trying to toss interracial couples into the intersectionality salad.
If you knew anything about intersectionality, you'd know that progressives have already tossed them in. Every demographic fits into intersectionality.
quote:
It's a nonsense argument, and I'm telling you, seeing as I'm actually in an interracial marriage, that your premise is bull shite. Most of us don't give a crap about intersectionality.
I never claimed otherwise. You clearly don't know what intersectionality is, or what my point is.
quote:
Experience trumps your bullshite, every time.
What's my argument, and how does you being in an interracial marriage give you any special insight that would counter what I'm saying?

That's a girl in the back seat? Obviously a budding lesbian. They are trying to touch all the bases.

They obviously want to discount the stereotype the black males aren’t responsible father figures even the the data overwhelmingly says so

My rule of thumb for "does that sound racist" is just reverse the colors. Run that through your head and you tell me.

No it's totally something a rational person would say in public. You've got a great grasp on both this topic and your own emotions.
Lol, like I said before, this whole thing is academic to me. You people are the ones that get bent out of shape when you see interracial couples on the telly. You can try to rationalize and obfuscate it all you want, the bottom line is, it bothers you to see them. Would you say that in public?

I get bent of of shape when its ignored that 70% of black mothers are single and most are living off of tax payers

I can't speak for anyone else, but it doesn't bother me. Progressives using people as pawns while stirring up a demographic war is what bothers me.
If that's your summary of what I'm arguing you clearly haven't bothered to understand what I'm saying and simply have had a knee jerking reaction this entire time.

But keep making assumptions.

Then don't participate. I've made this point twice already, interracial couples aren't interested in being political pawns. Why would it matter to us which side is trying to use us? We've been in the middle of fighting factions forever, it's ridiculous.

I had a huge crush on a cute black girl in high school, even asked her to prom.
Sorry you got shot down in flames.

Sure I do. If she'd given you some of the chocolate booty we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Again, you clearly don't understand, and aren't even attempting to understand, my point.
