Biteme I’m not liberal and my life doesn’t get controlled by politics. It was a much needed break from politics for those couple of hours.
My life isn't controlled by politics, either. I also generally don't pay people to insult me. It's where I've drawn the line.
But still, people who watch sports, AND complain about the politics they've dishonestly inserted into sports, are morons. Simple fact.
It would be no different than voting Democrat because you find it entertaining to vote Democrat, then bitching about Democrat policies. It's stupid.
If you're okay with being stupid, that's your choice! I'm not advocating making cable illegal. I'm advocating cancelling services of people who now are more interested in pushing politics than entertainment. My decision to cancel cable 30+ months ago wasn't solely based on sports. It came from the realization that I was paying for channels and therefore supporting opinions even when I didn't watch them at all. They still get paid.
So I've chosen not to participate in that, and if they change, I might decide one day to re-subscribe.

Thanks for the clarification, since now I am not a moron in your book of wisdom. I can lament certain aspects of something I like without complaining as if I expect something to be done about it.
I also dislike that ice cream is bad for me while having a half gallon of Blue Bell in my freezer to enjoy every now and then.

With cable, you're continually paying for the ice cream even when you don't eat it, and even when you don't want it in your freezer. Bit of a difference there.

I quit watching all sports, Under Gus it was not that hard to quit caring about Auburn football. I cancelled all of my sports channels. I miss the golf channel but I still make it through the day.
I will say this, what you watch is your own business, but not watching ESPN all the while still having it and paying for it is a waste of your money.
CANCEL ESPN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see it as paying for access for when I choose to consume the entertainment product delivered by a 3rd party delivery service. If I took your black/white stance, I wouldn't have internet, cell service, electricity or a home to live in. Again, compromises are made every day.
I'm frankly starting to believe you have no principles, unless you are currently in a self built cabin in the woods and generate your own utilities and internet connection somehow.

Were it so simple as signing up for individual channels on cable. Not so.
I started losing interest in college football when I figured out that football is primary and education was secondary, and a school with a single-minded enough coach will recruit rapists if he thinks it will win him a title.
Even my alma matter, Baylor, a supposed Christian school, hired (yes, hired) a bunch of criminals to play basketball and football, and then looked the other way when the players started raping women or shooting people.
Coaches having the players' homework done by interns in the athletic department so their star players can keep playing.
Pathetic. I once thought that college sports were more honest than professional sports. Now I know both are rotten.

Great. As long as you know that ESPN gets your money regardless of whether you watch or not, lol. ESPN could start a Black Panthers channel, and if you subscribe to cable, you're funding it. (conversely, for the liberals here, Fox could start a Hitler channel, and if you subscribe to cable, you'd be paying for it as well, whether you watch it or not).
You can claim I have no principles at all. We're all pragmatists. Some things we can control more easily than others. Subscribing to cable, or cancelling cable, is one thing that is EASY to control.

Not gonna argue with you there. Again I don't judge your decision, but disparaging someone else's pragmatism because it doesn't line up with yours is where I believe you are in error. I'm glad you at least somewhat see what I have been trying to say. I'm satisfied that you and I could coexist as conservatives because we have wayyyy more common ground than we do not.

Do people still watch sports in here? Personally, I have not watched anything in over a year and a half. Most people in my circles have either completely written it off or occasionally watch.
They express that they just got sick of being told how to live their lives by athletes and leagues. They also were sick of being told that the way they thought/lived their lives was to blame for all the ills in society.
I am wondering if this board thinks this continues and grows and if so does it or can it really affect the leagues that much, or do people eventually cave. Myself, I have found other things to occupy my time and found I wasted a sh!tload of time watching sports. Don't believe I would ever return.
I haven't read this thread yet, but I will put in my two cents here. I love sports. I love watching sports (Coll & NFl Football, Coll Baseball & MLB, and Coll Basketball). It is extremely entertaining to me. Since I was a kid. Why on earth would I quit watching something that is entertaining to me? Because an athlete said something or believes in something that I disagree with? Because some players kneel during the anthem? How weak minded do you have to be to let this affect you to the point that just can't bear to watch anymore? My only focus is what happens when the ball is in play. Entertain me. Before or after, I couldn't care less. If what they say or do on their platform bothers me, I'm man enough to not go cry in a corner. Same with movies. I don't give a frick about what De Niro's political beliefs are, if he's in a movie that I like, I'm watching it. I just don't give a frick. To me, if you quit watching sports over the current climate, you probably could take it or leave it anyway.

It is hard to figure any impact outside of the lack of big names paying for super bowl commercials - that and how the left has used Covid to destroy the fans in the seats.
Combining these two together will be a hard obstacle for professional sports to overcome. If people can't go and the TV audience continues to dwindle, you wonder how much pressure that places on the leagues.
It will take a lot of money to prop it up and I do not think there is a big enough international audience to do so - definitely not for the fans in the seats.
Should be interesting in the coming year as something has to break. The left has dug in so hard on Covid they have to ride it out. Players have done a great deal of damage with even the middle of the road fan. There are only so many rich fans that can use it as a status symbol.
Aside from sponsors and viewers, where does the money come from? They can lie about the ratings all they want, when Budweiser passes on the super bowl they do so because there is a lack of value for their investment.

Sure, we draw the line at different places. Lots of people cannot give up their love of sports, even when the sports itself has become toxic.

I mostly make fun and insult people who pay for cable then bitch about it, as I've said at least four times already in this thread. Something as easy to control in your life as a discretionary expense like a cable bill, but refusing to exercise your control over it, yet still whining about it, is indeed moronic. It is.
If you're okay with the wokeness, and don't whine about it, or if you agree with it, then I'm all for your choice to keep paying for it and watching it. I absolutely support dumb choices. If there were actually a "white supremacist channel", I'd cancel cable over that, too. Your race is sacred and comes from God, and is not to be violated.
Over the last 30+ months, I've saved - and invested, $140 per month, and enjoy the knowledge that I'm not supporting racist, divisive BS.
If your life's entertainment is so focused on the television that it is your sole source of entertainment, then what does that say about you?
I come from a musical family. I play three or four different instruments and my son plays eight at 8 years old. We spend our weekend afternoons making music, as an example of an alternative. In fact, here's a link to a crappy recording my son and I did when he was only 6. He's playing the lead. LINK
The point is there are other things out there to do to enrich yourself that don't involve paying people to insult you.
If you're not insulted, it's your choice. Just realize that the "woke culture" is wrong logically and morally. It's destructive and divisive, and if you condone it by paying for it, then indeed you ARE part of the problem.

No, if you want to be a moron, or if you support anti-white liberal propaganda, and are willing to pay people to produce it, then that's your choice. Not a smart choice. Not a choice that brings people together, but divides them. But it's yours. Congrats on being a divisive douche. More power to you for your ignorant decision.

How is that being a snowflake? I gave up something I enjoyed occasionally on principle. That actually takes some strength of character, unlike people that keep paying for garbage.
I guess you'd call someone who gave up sodas to lose weight a snowflake, too?
It takes less character and more weakness to keep doing something you like to do even when it's bad for you.
You have up something you occasionally enjoy because you're a snowflake. Congrats!

About the only thing I watch these days is the UFC. I did watch the college football playoffs. Haven't watched basketball, pro or college, at all.

This. These hard line people are typically hypocrites. Had a guy scream at me to "buy American" when it came to vehicles, only to walk in his house and see his 70" Sony TV. It's comical. And yes, I would bet you and I BOTH have more principles than BiteMe2020. It's comical.

If you did, you wouldn't have started this thread name calling anyone who even has a slightly different view than you on something as trivial as chosen forms of entertainment.

Congrats? I won't start listing all my hobbies or hide behind my children's talents as doing so is neither here nor there in this discussion. I have no reason to believe you care, and I wouldn't expect you to. Based on your other posts, nothing I say will sway your assumed moral superiority anyway.
quote:
Your race is sacred and comes from God, and is not to be violated.
Ahh there's where the feigned superiority comes from. This all makes more sense now. My god tells me humility, forgiveness and, most importantly, understanding are more important than flinging judgements at others' character when I know next to nothing about them. I wish I had the writ from the almighty that you so proudly wield as a cudgel in his name. Would make life much less burdensome to have such righteous fervor of judgement. I don't hate your beliefs, as I'm sure they serve you well. I also don't think you're moronic for seeing your religious teaching differently than I do.
Maybe we don't have common ground. If my $65 a month to a TV service offends you this much, I'll be better suited disagreeing with someone who has the ability to see things in a different light without getting insulted to the point of vitriol as I have seen here.
Take care.

No. That re-arrangement of time should’ve been done sooner too.
The BS social theatrics from the LSU Athletic department has withdrawn all sports interest for many. In hindsight, it was a huge favor.
