I’ve been looking at a nice Maserati GT 2008 for 30k.

I wonder what type of maintenance schedule these cars are on actually.
Yep, sounds like you've already looked at the $/mile cost of operation. Super low maintenance cost would be the only reason for a Tesla at this point, imho

I have a 120 mile round trip commute everyday. I purchased a Chevy Volt (used for $12k) and never looked back. The bonus for my commute is that I can use HOV lanes all around Atlanta, that saves me about 30 minutes/day. I average 65mpg in the summer and 50mpg in the winter. I have not had any expenses but the oil changes and they are pretty infrequent. There is no way the Tesla would ever catch the Volt in savings. But the Tesla is an extremely nice car

The reason people are anti-tesla is because they think Trump is anti-tesla and only leftists Democrats in California buy them. It really is that simple.

Tesla Vehicles? Why would I buy one? by FooManChoo
Get a Tesla for the same reason you should eat only organic food: so you can pretend to be better than everyone.
God forbid we try new things......

Environmental cost. Lithium strip mining in China, South America, and USA. Sure it's replenishable. , but at the cost of 500,000 gallons of H20/tonne of lithium. Countries in SA actually have very dry regions in Argentina and Chile and that is where the mining operations take place. then you have the increases cases of fish, wildlife and livestock carcasses being found downstream from the runoff of the mining process. lithium extraction inevitably harms the soil and causes air contamination. In Argentina’s Salar de Hombre Muerto, locals claim that lithium operations have contaminated streams used by humans and livestock, and for crop irrigation. In Chile, there have been clashes between mining companies and local communities, who say that lithium mining is leaving the landscape marred by mountains of discarded salt and canals filled with contaminated water with an unnatural blue hue. This is more detrimental than carbon immissions could ever hope to be. I'm all for cleaner modes of transportation and protecting the environment, but Tesla cars are not the answer.
Ok. But this is happening with cell phone and every other item that uses a battery.
Tesla and all battery items are a start.

Not really, this was indeed the case. You must not have spent much time in rural america. The stupid assumptions have changed but not completely. They are a badass luxury car that has a specific market and if you are in a metropolis and have disposable to spend on an expensive vehicle then by all means I would totally recommend getting one. I've ridden in one a couple of times if I had 80 grand to drop on a second vehicle that can't tow a boat I would purchase one.

Interesting word usage.

So, your previous statement is not accurate?

No argument here, but none of this has to do with Trump being anti tesla.

I looked at them. I have a 1 hr commute each way. Teslas are quiet and I liked the styling and acceleration. Filling up at my house is kinda cool. The tech is intriguing as well. Cost of the car wasnt cool at all, though. So, I got the Infiniti Q50S Hybrid. 32 mpg avg hwy/city for a luxury sport sedan ain't bad.

Meh, not good with pulling boats or getting a good buck out the woods, so it was never going to be...
It can pull a boat with ease. I was racing at Road Atlanta one weekend and there was a guy pulling 911 cup car with a Tesla. He said he didn't know it was back there and he could still outrun most "sports cars". To get to the deer it would need a few mods.
Watch 3:40 Tesla towing a sports car racing a sports car.
Youtube
Still frick battery powered cars.

There is nothing bullish about cutting your sales staff and cutting the price of your product. They have a store in Lenox mall that they just opened and probably spent millions on. They are cutting costs because they are running out of cash. A bunch of executives quit and Elon’s lawyer he hired was the lead prosecutor against Enron. The sirens should be going off in everyone’s heads.

Lithium doesn’t make up that much of the battery pack. Only about 35lbs of lithium it Tesla’s largest battery which weighs over 1,000lbs.

Biggest issue I've heard is people losing miles per charge as the battery ages.
A new battery is $10,000.
If you bought one for fuel savings, that's dumb because you could just buy a $20k car and save 24k right away.
Not to mention Tesla still can't mass produce them, so I doubt the price comes down anytime soon.

That’s why you get an 8 year unlimited mile warranty on battery and drive unit.
