I like it a lot. It’s just a little narrow.

My Country ‘Tis of Thee is much more representative of American ideals.

O.k., I guess I thought it was self-evident that people who were determined to be unhappy just because something changed (your words, not mine) wouldn't be included in "everybody."

And maybe "likes" is the wrong word.

Can't we adopt a new one that includes and represents the experience of historically marginalized groups?

As I said. The lyrics are not the problem. I actually like the lyrics. It’s the fact of it being called the Black national anthem that is disgusting and racially divisive. It’s an insult to everyone, including black people as it paints the picture that blacks are disenfranchised from America and so need their own national anthem, and while that supports the perverted narrative the race stirrers are trying to convey, it does nothing but divide people and keep them divided. That serves only one people.... DEMOCRATS

Cogent response. Really. That may be the best articulation of your side that I’ve seen.

Pithy. Does it really matter that much what you call it?

The problem isn’t the lyrics, or even the song.

The problem is that is is racially specific and America is not the land of blacks. It’s the land of AMERICANS, ALL Americans, and so when you bring racial preference into a public event like football you drive a racial divide amongst people who don’t share in it. It’s not a song for all. It’s a song only for 13 percent of ALL of us.

Why is the NFL focusing on one race or ethnicity at the exclusion of others?

What about the Latino American national anthem? The Chinese American national anthem ? The Native American national anthem? The Irish American national anthem? The Italian American national anthem? The Polish American National? The German American national anthem?

It sure sounds discriminatory to me!

I agree with that, so the only way to unite rather than divide is to not attempt to unify around choices that have emotional baggage already attached. It's to come up with something new that only has a sincere effort to be inclusive attached to it.

I dunno, try calling it the 3/5ths compromise song and see how that turns out.

For years many of you have bitched about the secularization of our society. “Where is God in public events?” you asked. You howled with glee when Tebow prayed in the end zone as you held up your “John 3:16” placards.

Now the NFL wants to play a song ABOUT GOD, and you are losing your damn minds.

What in the actual frick?

frick you

That is an absolutely horrid misrepresentation and you know it.

When the whole point of the song’s name is to create division and elevate blacks above everyone else, particularly as a NATIONAL anthem, it does matter. You’re intellectually dishonest but par for the course as a leftist

I don’t.

I really always loved Lift Every Voice and Sing. The Ray Charles version has long been on my America playlist.

I don’t give a damn why they are playing it. The song has independent meaning and it’s terrific.

Why can’t historically marginalized groups be proud that they are included in “the Land of the Free and the home of the Brave?” Because their ancestors were slaves? So were mine, to Indians, no less. Big fricking deal. I was born and reared in the southern United States. Did that stop me from enlisting in the Union Army? Nope. Be a fricking American or don’t. But if one chooses to ride the American gravy train and contribute nothing, the least they can do is shut the frick up while OUR national anthem
is played. But, those who disrespect our country and her symbols of blood and sacrifice have neither the shame nor honor that would compel them to do so.
