You did, by comparing it to rape.

You apparently don't know what the word "compare" means.

If you claim they aren't comparable, or that you aren't comparing them, what do you call it when you say the same exact thing but swap out one word?

Simple.

Illustrating that if one sounds absurd, so does the other using a super obvious example.

IE, you can't say you are for something in every possible way while simultaneously claiming to NOT be for it.

It’s a tough pill to swallow when your own flesh & blood join a cult. Cut him a break. He probably really respected you. And now you support someone who tramples on the ideals of our country & calls anyone who dares call him out on it a traitor & unpatriotic. I’m old enough to remember when the GOP would riot over a president who does the bidding of Russia & sells out to Saudi Arabia, N Korea and I guess now, Ukraine. Those were good times I tell ya. Good times.

Then you cats should shut them up - because they're purporting to speak for most/all of you.
Who is "them"?! Are you talking about some politicians? Libs on this board? Wackos marching about every little thing? Who?!
quote:

I just don't see those people in the public square.
Because they're busy living their lives, just like the majority of the right. And those two very large groups of people have a lot in common. The "us vs. them" narrative is perpetuated by a minority at either end, and it's fricking exhausting.
quote:

I used to believe that. In the post-Obama era, I'm not so sure.
So it's Obama's fault?

Seriously though, it should be pretty clear that there are just a handful of issues that a relative handful of people are drawing lines in the sand over, and those few issues and people are driving this insane and repetitive shitshow of national debate. I mean people on this board call for civil war on a daily basis. It's absurd!

And to the people in here saying their family doesn't talk to them, I'm sorry you have shitty family members. Don't blame it on the politics, though, they were probably just shitty people to begin with and found a reason to be shitty to others in politics.

To counter your anecdotes, my own family has quite a few staunch repubs, fewer staunch libs, and a whole lot of people in between. One aunt legit thought Obama was the antichrist. She is strongly against gay marriage, and she tells my gay cousin that she thinks he's going to hell, but she loves him anyway. I have family on the west coast who hate Trump with a passion, and (straight) uncles here in Louisiana who I'm pretty sure would literally suck Trump's dick given the opportunity. Still, everyone gets together on holidays and has a great time together. We eat, we drink, we laugh and cut up. Every few years the west coasters come down and everyone has a great time enjoying each other's company.

Hell, I'll admit it. Based on what I've seen coming from the left these days, I want nothing to do with them. They are hell-bent on destroying this country. I will never accept that.

I don't want to extend an olive branch to those maniacs. "F**k Them."

Ever hear of a metaphor? It's not a comparison, it's a metaphor pointing out the ridiculousness of your assertion. Are you dense?
Not dense at all. Let's try something. Instead of swapping in rape, let's go with something a little less extreme, like gay marriage.

"I don't support gay marriage but I don't think it should be illegal and I don't want any preventative measures taken and if someone does marry homosexually I want them protected in my city and will do my best to prevent the cops from arresting them......... But like I said......... I don't support gay marriage."

That doesn't quite make the same point, does it? No, and it's because rape was deliberating chosen to draw that comparison.

OK

Cool.

Same thing. You support gay marriage. If you are not only against it being illegal but are taking ACTIVE MEASURES to perpetrate it happening, you support it in any reasonable sense of the word.

Nice try.

If you can't see that, I can't help you.

Your party supports illegal immigration because it not only opposes laws on the subject, it actively acts to help those who do it!

This is what is known as, supporting open borders.

I do.

But the chosen example makes a huge difference, as I pointed out above. Call it what you want, but the fact is you deliberately drew an implicit comparison between illegal immigration and rape.

You see, this mindset is the problem we are facing. This is the reason OP made this thread. You and many others INSIST that everything can only be one way or the other. Everything is black and white, you're with me or you're against me, no compromise, no middle ground.

I see candidates and others opposing some of the current immigration policies, but not all of the policies. There is not a single candidate running on "open borders". Every single one recognizes that open borders are not feasible, and also that the currently broken immigration process is a huge part of the reason illegal immigration is a problem in the first place. Why won't you accept that there is middle ground between splitting up families and open borders?

Pretty selfless of him to put the needs of his fellow countrymen above his own relationship with his family.

Why won't you accept that decriminalizing entering our country without permission is advocating for open borders? We wont go into extending them access to taxpayer dollars in the form of healthcare, food, housing, hell even college tuition!

Pretty high level of cognitive dissonance to say that advocating for all of those things is not supporting and calling for open borders. Begging for an invasion is what it is, in truth. You aren't fooling anyone here.

No, dipshit. What I'm really saying is US legislators saying we should not criminally prosecute those who break our laws, are advocating for our laws to be broken. If we scrap our immigration laws, and just accept whomever walks across our border, we don't have any borders. frick, are you all stupid?

Which candidates hold this position without an accompanying plan for reforming the immigration process?

See above. I'm going to call you dipshit #1 from here on out, since you've been the primary dipshit in this thread. Dipshit #2 just kind of glommed on to your stupidity. I have no doubt he'll get his opportunity to be dipshit #1 in another thread.
