And the process of seeing an asylum officer takes 2 days. During those 2 days the asylum seeker is placed in a detention center. If the asylum officer isn’t convinced they are turned away. All within 2 days.

But I was talking about the 500 or so criminals in the caravan. The U.S.must know something about the crimes they committed or how would they know they are "criminals".

There is probably a lot more than that as MS-13 gang members came out of El Salvador and Guatemala. If not at this time they will hang around other people like themselves here and join gangs like the MS-13 for protection.
Usually the ones I came across that cause more trouble will be arrested and then deported. Then they will be back in the states in a few weeks anyway as our system is a joke. Even in BR I know of some that got arrested for drug dealing, dui, one shot another Latino in a drug dispute, and they get deported. On avg you seen them a month or two later as they pop back up in the same neighborhoods even in the BR area.
