It could easily be because Russia is undeniable proof that communism/state socialism does not work. Russia has experienced remarkable growth since the collapse of the Soviet Union. They may not be sitting atop the mountain at the moment, and there's yet a long way to go, but their economy and their freedoms have been on a decidedly positive upswing since 1991.
