I agree I thought about kagawa as well. He's only been at that level for one season though. If his form continues at united I would put him on that list.

Hazard

He's had one phenomenal year in Ligue 1, which apparently isn't good enough to be make one a top player.

Drogba

Not sure if serious based on past two years.

quote:

has one year left on his contract with a club that can not afford a new contract at his market value

That's patently false.

quote:

If he is sold this summer Arsenal will receive £15-18 million most likely. If he had 3 years on his contract he would most likely cost £25-30 million. If he was 6 years younger he would cost another 10 million. You see what I'm getting at?

Yeah! Thanks for the economics lesson!

quote:

I suppose you can make an argument for Santi Cazorla but I don't think he'd start regularly on a team that competes for the champions league.

Played fairly regularly for the Villareal team that made the Champions League semis vs. Arsenal in 05/06. Frequent contributor in a stacked Spanish side. Honestly don't know why he couldn't. Hopefully we'll prove you wrong this year!

quote:

As for Giroud and Chamakh, I have a feeling you didn't follow soccer closely when he was at Bordeaux. I don't mean to sound condescending and I'm sorry if I'm incorrect about that.

I did, but that's cool. I know we were interested in Chamakh a year before his contract expired but apparently didn't think he was worth the risk and just waited until his contract expired. I also decided to watch some Bordeaux since we were so heavily linked. Considering you watched them both, you should understand the difference between them.

My post summed it up, like perfectly.

Cazorla is also fantastic at set pieces. Whether corners or shooting. Something we have sorely lacked in recent years.

We can move the discussion elsewhere, the Arsenal thread perhaps. I just don't get at all what your basis is for what you think makes a top player. The arguments you make for and against some players that have been listed contradict each other. You have an incredibly narrow view of what a top player is it seems.

eta: I apologize if I'm coming off as a dick or a homer. I just don't think much of what you have been saying the past couple pages is based in fact with regards to Arsenal. Besides that we can't spend the big dollars on transfer fees that others do

Arshavin's 4 versus Pool and the winner against Barca were worth his fee alone.

Top player: able to consistently crack the line up of a team that challenges for champions league titles. Not saying that a player actually has to be playing for one of those teams, just consistently playing at a level where they would earn a place in one of those teams. An example would be RVP who has clearly been world class the last 2 years or Cavani at Napoli, he could walk in to most teams in Europe. Hazard is another obvious example. 1 season? He's been on every top teams radar since he was 17

You really don't think Cazorla wouldn't start at PSG right now? I'll defer to our board Spain expert Dandy Lion. He thinks Cazorla is better than Mata or Silva right now. And his style of play fits both Arsenal and the EPL. This is what makes this game so much fun. We will see.

Pretty sure Cazorla spoke in the past of not wanting to go to Madrid or barca because he wanted to play every game. I didn't see Malaga play that often last season so maybe he is at that level. Dandy tends to be a la liga homer

FCB's Director Deportivo is in London to close the Song deal.

He was Villareal's best player and moved to Malaga and was their best player. They qualified for the UCL, but due to FFP had to sell. I'd love Arsenal to buy Isco with the RVP money.

Doesn't diminish his valuation of players. You and I are EPL homers, it is good to have different perspectives on here.

rumors of javi martinez deal being done are swirling around germany. also heard something about barcelona going after luiz gustavo, dont see bayern selling him. he wont start, but he's a very good DM with limited skills going forward.

if he stays healthy, when you speak of Spanish players you'll be obliged to mention him prior to Mata or Silva.

He is electric, versatile, and very, very quick (not fast, quick). Über technical, ambipedal and is always going towards goal (well, either him or the ball).

Again, I used to watch him at Villarreal when Jozy was there I think he's a great player and I always looked out for him when he was on duty with Spain. I don't think he's a world class player yet do you?

Which is quite different from being able to walk in to any team in Europe.

I'm guessing by this you only mean Barca, Real, Milan, United, Bayern? Because to me, anyone who makes the knockout rounds consistently is contending for Champions League titles. If you mean even the top 10 clubs in Europe, I think you'd find plenty of players worse than Giroud and Cazorla who get regular PT at top 10 clubs. Not to mention they were bought to be big contributors on a team that hasn't missed the knockout round since 2000...

It ain't happenin' unless they make a Godfather offer. Under contract until 2015, happy at Arsenal, Wenger happy to keep him. 15mil ain't cuttin' it, Barca.
