With Carlo's 4-3-3, there are not many spots available. I get the want for depth, but there is simply not room for Modric, Kroos, Isco, Di Maria, Khedira, Alonso, maybe James, and more. All six of these guys should start, and I would prefer Madrid to only own four or five of them at because it would suck to not see some of them not play on a regular basis. I like Illara as the fifth midfielder.
If Khedira and Di Maria leave, then it will probably work out, but I would like to keep Di Maria.

By big I meant the front runners. Although I do think Sunderland could have a good year with Poyet being at the helm for the whole season rather than picking up the pieces of Di Canio.

Front runners for what?

To sign Besler if he doesn't stay with KC.

Michu to Napoli on season loan with option to buy.

Frieburg may be a spot for Besler since they just sold Ginter.

I think Freiburg was in the mix at one point but have since been removed.

we chickened out on buying Ginter last year now Dortmund picks him up :(

I wonder if Dortmund is planning on losing Hummels or Subotic. They now have 4 great center backs.

maybe bracing for a huge United bid for Hummels. who knows.

Federico Viviani, midfielder born 1992 owned by AS Roma and one of the greatest talents in Italian football, is close to become a Leeds player.
The other contender for Viviani, Verona, has chosen Greek midfielder Tachtsidis.
Nicola Salerno, Leeds director, confirmed: “We have good chances to take Viviani, but the deal isn’t done yet”.
Viviani’s agent, Pocetta: “Leeds would is a very prestigious club for Federico”.

I don't know if they are the frontrunners, per se, but just were the two teams mentioned by name.
I guess that could mean frontrunners though.

I don't want to sell either, but someone will be leaving. I think di Maria is harder to replace.

I just assumed they were since they have been the only two actually named so far which leads me to believe they are the closest to striking a deal.

They fill similar enough roles. With only one of the two, Real Madrid is an injury away from getting throatfricked on the counter and giving the league away
I really don't want to see some featherweight midfield where the only player who wants to physically assert himself is Xabi and no one wants to track back ever, again

This is why I think they may still be ´a Pogbaing´ around.
