I don't think you can say he denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity when De Gea was on his line and could have made the save. At least I think he was on his line. I'd have to re-watch.

I just rewatched the replay and not only is de Gea in a good position but there are two other defenders behind pique. One standing right on the goal line.
No way a red for me.

If the keeper needs to make a save IT IS an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
Pique knew exactly what he was doing. Why did he raise his arm after the ball passed? He intentionally put his arm in the path of a shot.
