They did a background story on “how the Hell did the WC end up in Qatar?!” in an effort to (comically) suggest it wasn’t because of bribes and kickbacks. As the story went, the rich ruler decided he wanted to host the World Cup but before they could bid for it they had to create a team from scratch. This was only like 12 years ago and the whole country is about the size of St Barnard Parish, I think. So, yeah, they suck
