The fact that an American striker tried something like that shows how far we've come in the creativity department. I don't care if he shanked it, the thought of it was pure genius.
This for sure, our crop of half merican half german breeds are going to be starts. I need to get on knocking some of these ho's up

I honestly think it was a mixture of both. He was just trying to create something as DB had said. Boyd was probably figuring if he couldn't get enough of an effort on it to find the net, someone might be there. He was just backheeling it retardedly like I might at pickup.
He sort of did that earlier in the game when he got himself trapped in the left corner by two Mexican defenders, half-hoping someone might be there to bail him out on a back heel.
It as a good moment because it shows that our younger guys might be able to create, even as Shea comes off a rough patch.

I have to revise my assessment. It was a pass.
I've been watching the video all day, both in English and Spanish. It really doesn't matter, the same cameras were shared by both ESPN and Univision.
But watching it repeatedly, the first thing I see, after Boyd makes contact is the direction in which he turns his head. With his back to goal, he turns his head to his left, and looks DIRECTLY at Orozco.
He knew Orozco was there, and he also knew he had TWO CABRONES on his back, and that a straight back heel would be useless. He either saw Orozco coming up the pitch, or he actually heard him. But from the look, he knew precisely where he was. And Orozco was fortunate, he didn't get a good clean touch on the bal.
But, at the end of the night? We beat motherfricking Mexico in motherfricking Estadio Motherfricking Azteca. And I'm STILL smiling as of 3:45 p.m. the next afternoon.
