He didn't, and you're trying way too hard. Go drink some NyQuil or something.
Nah, I'm usually a glass half full guy, but tonight was pathetic by everyone. To say otherwise is crazy.

I guess holden is never going to play again.

You're the man to answer the question: was that the worst US midfield in the last 15 years in a game that mattered?
Perhaps, but this is the biggest shite show of a roster since the failed 4-3-3 on the road against Costa Rica.
quote:
USA: 1-Tim Howard; 6-Marvell Wynne, 5-Oguchi Onyewu, 3-Carlos Bocanegra (capt.), 7-DaMarcus Beasley; 4-Pablo Mastroeni (11-Freddy Adu, 63), 12-Michael Bradley, 9-José Francisco Torres (16-Sacha Kljestan, 46); 8-Clint Dempsey (15-Charlie Davies, 80), 10-Landon Donovan, 17-Jozy Altidore
Much like people are asking "How could we have lost with a midfield of Jones-Beckerman-Edu?", I'm pretty sure starting Marvell Wynne and DaMarcus Beasley as your outside backs is almost a guaranteed loss.
What a shite show.

In terms of looking like he actually gave a crap, Herc was the only one I can look at and say, "At least he played hard. Didn't do anything, but played hard."
This is NOT a positive from the game.
This is NOT me saying that effort is more important.
This is NOT me saying that it wasn't a disgraceful misery of a match.
This is me saying that Herc was the only one that played somewhat hard. Period. That's it. In the end, it doesn't matter.

I now have a sole purpose in FM. I am going to take Jurgen's job and NEVER call up Edu or Beckerfrick ever again!!!!!!!!

There is none. I was just stating things that suck. I feel like my dog died.
G Tim Howard, 7
D Fabian Johnson, 5 –
D Geoff Cameron, 6.5 –
D Clarence Goodson, 6.5 –
D Michael Parkhurst, 6.5 – Given the concerns about his lack of pace, Parkhurst not only held up well defensively, but found time to get forward as well. The U.S. didn't miss the injured Cherundolo at all.
M Maurice Edu, 4.5 – His seeing-eye pass sparked the buildup to Dempsey's tally. But struggled to connect with his passes thereafter. His foul led to Shelton's game-winner.
M Kyle Beckerman, 3.5 – Came out second best in his battles with Austin, and he deflected the Jamaican's free kick past Howard. Gradually recovered to make some better decisions, but overall his lack of speed left him constantly chasing the game. Subbed after an hour.
M Jermaine Jones, 4 – Struggled to connect on his passes all night long, and looked like he was trying to do too much for most of the game.
M Clint Dempsey, 6.5 – Was well positioned on his goal, but should have done better with a late first half attempt after good work from Parkhurst. As the game progressed his lack of match sharpness was evident, but he was one of the few U.S. players who looked lively in attack.
F, Jozy Altidore, 4.5 – His game was far too quiet, but the quality of service into him wasn't exactly the greatest. Could have done more to help the U.S. defend from the front.
F Herculez Gomez, 5.5 – His clever run and persistence set the table for Dempsey's goal. Didn't get much help thereafter as the U.S. relied on long balls.
Subs:
M Danny Williams, 6 – Finally got a chance to play centrally after being forced to play out of position in previous appearances.
M Brek Shea, 6 – Looked dangerous and energetic after coming on, and while every move didn't come off, he U.S. attack looked better with him on the field.
How anyone on this team got above a 5 is beyond me. Parkhurst 6.5 frick me.

Tonight will be forgettable for me IF we win on Tuesday.

Are those your ratings?
...
6.5? For what? Passing the ball into the net?
Pretty terrible ratings overall.

If I rate them I would give them all 2s and beckman and edu would get -3.

Every time parkhurst got the ball on the wing I was yelling for him to cross it. Then he did and I wished he hadn't.
If only we had a right back that could cross the ball.

quote:Momentum isn't that important. The U.S. should have had momentum after beating Mexico but it didn't matter. Momentum doesn't matter. Ignore all the end-of-the-world BS on here. The U.S. comes out and wins their last two or probably even just wins one of the last two and they likely advance.
No, not in a mathematical sense, but in a momentum sense. Can't limp into the last two with just 4 or 5 points.

2 steps forward, 3 steps back it seems. If we don't qualify for the World Cup (unlikely), Jurgy ought to be kicked out of the country forever. He just isn't a great tactician. He has to have someone with him to say "Jurgen, starting Edu, Beckerman and Jones is fricking stupid"
If you want to play 2 defensive mids, that's fine but you better have a creative passer somewhere in there. Partner Beckerman with Jones but have someone who is good with the ball at his feet to link up play. Otherwise, your midfield is pointless.
There has to be a certain balance within your team and I honestly don't think Klinsmann gets it. I think he may be better as a sort of sporting director rather than involved with gameday management.

Agreed, however we shouldn't worry about coming down to to the last couple of matches to advance. I don't want to screw around. It's time we start beating these CONCACAF teams like the little Mexicans and quasiMexicans that they are.
