New stadium opening in a few months now time for finally a big name DP

quote:

nglish superstar Wayne Rooney is in serious talks about joining D.C. United this summer, sources told the Insider on Tuesday. Rooney, 32, has scored 10 goals for Everton in the Premier League this season — none since mid-December — after spending 13 years with Manchester United. He is the greatest scorer in English national team history with 53 goals in 119 appearances between 2003 and ’16 and is second on the Premier League career scoring charts (208) behind Alan Shearer (260). Rooney has a year left on his contract with Everton but reports in Britain said he has grown frustrated at his boyhood club. United would have to pay a transfer fee or negotiate a free move. His market value is estimated at $17 million, a far cry from the $77 million price tag six years ago. Talks between Rooney’s representatives and the MLS side accelerated in recent weeks, and one person familiar with the negotiations said D.C. has a 50 percent chance of acquiring him during the MLS transfer and trade window, which will open July 10.

he would still be better than 95% of the league

DC need a big name to go along with the new stadium opening.

I have a feeling he'll be more of a Lampard than a Villa in MLS

Well the defending is so bad he just needs to get in the right positions.

I don't think he forgot how to do that.

Lampard was just a loop hole by the CFG

Rooney wants to leave Everton bc he wants playing time.

I agree. Somewhere between a Lampard and a Pirlo.

The only field players for Everton with more minutes was Keane and Gueye this year. I'd consider it a win if Everton just recouped how much they paid him this year

I’m considering going in on season tickets. New stadium and Rooney. Pretty exciting stuff for DC.

He's already lost a few steps, he'll be 33 before the end of this season, has played top flight ball for 16 or 17 straight years, and he'll be playing in the hottest climate he's ever lived in. To buy him for $12m, making him the 2nd or 3rd most expensive transfer in league history, (not even counting what his salary will be) just doesn't make much sense.

I'd be pissed off if this was my club.

A majority of his salary will be paid by Everton still

Him loosing a step doesn’t mean he won’t be able to be successful

MLS defending is awful, as long as he gets in the right areas he will be fine.

Just picked up two tickets to the home opener. Finally a fading star to United! Just fire Ben now.

Now they say it's $16m+.

Most expensive transfer in MLS history is 32 year old Wayne Rooney.
