Yes I'm asking a lot of questions. I'm drunk. frick the haters.

But Sociedad, Alaves, and Eibar aren't so stubborn.

Plus it's ridiculous anyway. Lol if you think Inaki is Basque.

Lol wasn't he born there?

Idk why they are so hardline, but I think it's cool. They're always a fun save to try on Football Manager.

Their supporters claim they rather stay Basque only even if it means being relegated. The have never been relegated so it has never been put to the test though. The stretch the Basque only thing as far as they can

Actually, unless they've changed, they won't sign Spaniards from outside of Euskadi or without Basque ancestry. So, they're still stubborn, just not as stubborn.

When you're the rallying point of a nation, you think of things a bit differently.

I believe they have softened their stance

I asked about this, 2 years ago on here, after years of playing FM/CM and noticing that their transfer rules said something about only from Basque area, etc.

They're not so hardline anymore. They've casted a wider net by also accepting players whose lived in Basque Country for a longtime, but aren't Basque and/or have Basque blood (via Parents or Grandparent).

Eibar, Alaves, n Sociedad couldn't compete anymore with these in-club policiess so they did away with them. Plus Athletic have an ELITE Youth Academy n Developmental system so they just rely on their cantera.

????

Real Sociedad had these policies at one time?? They must have gotten rid of them a very long time ago. I remember Nihat played for them in the early 2000s. Unless I'm missing something, I don't think Istanbul is part of Basque Country.

Edit: Looks like they got rid of it in 1989 when they signed LFC striker John Aldrige.

Yeah, pre-89, Real Sociedad actually had a stricter policy than Athletic (only players from Guipuzkoa were allowed). Now, they only sign Basques and non-Spaniards, unless they’ve changed it recently.

Its the age old, little brother couldn't hang with big brother in the same city sort of thing.

In the Basque Country, Athletic is Euskadi. Every kid in the region aspires to play for Bilbao.. Unless you're from San Sebastian n surrounding area.. Than you're Sociedad till you die. Problem is the recruitment area for Sociedad is extremely small due to Bilbaos influence on the region and great track records with its famous cantera.

Real Sociedad signed some Russians after the fall of the USSR. Most notably Valeri Karpin.
