Loss to Terek was a set back. Though, most English speakers translate Grozny to terrible, ie Ivan IV. And yes, Chechnya is a shite hole.

Zenit in Europa will be the reason Russia gets that third CL place. It certainly isn't Rostov, and CSKA has looked too terrible to be helpful to the cause.
But Zenit getting all four wins, and going 6-0-0? Yea. frick Yea. 100% certainty.
For the detractors, Russia gamed the system, there is no mistake. Maybe it's just opinion, but I think the country coefficient system was originally designed to have a lot more bouncing between 4 and 3 teams, 3 and 2 teams, CL and EL. Europeans and their Bureaucracies.
I'll say my what makes me butthurt; it's Portugal getting only 2 teams in CL play. Portugal is a three team league. Benfica, Porto, and Sporting Lisbon are among the better teams in Europe, and deserve to see play for the CL. Not win it, they're more likely to be EL winners. It's probably the only country in the world that deserves 3 CL and 0 EL for the group stages.
Russia? For Group Stages, Minimum 2 CL, 1 EL, plus one more (2/2 or 3/1, depending on the year). They deserve it. They aren't Scotland with one good team and maybe a challenging second. They are good they deserve teams.
For now, Russia gets another CL place and Portugal gets one less. I think in the next year or two it goes right back to where it was.

Russia getting three CL places? I'm okay with that. They have competitive teams in the league. I think Ukraine, Belgium, and the Netherlands also have a third team that would do well enough. Not win the CL, just make for interesting enough games.
Portugal getting only 2 CL places? No, I don't like that. Portugal is a three team league. Benfica, Porto, and Sporting are those three solid historic teams that deserve places in the CL, and nobody else in that league really deserves a hard look. It's sad to see one of them won't be there next year.
