DirecTV questions

Old/new customer here. Last time I had a receiver/box and now they sent me a small contraption that plugs into HDMI port. Everything works great until I try to watch something on demand. I get a message saying that I need to upgrade. Do they have DVR’s anymore?

you probably need to switch to the streaming DirecTV service. They are killing off the satellite service slowly.

I wonder how much longer DTV and Dish will be around? There's no reason to use those buffoons with Starlink being available everywhere now.

Directv will be around a long time as DirecTV streaming service. But the satellite service is already in the shutdown process. Most of the country can no longer order a new satellite dish install and DirecTV has committed to not replacing any satellites. So as each old satellite dies, there will be no replacement. It is the equivalent of being on DSL for internet. It is fine if it is working for you but when it breaks, it is likely not being repaired so might as well move off of it if you have choices.

Sounds like a Gemini for DTV Streaming Service. I switched from having DTV satellite, since 1995, to DTV Streaming in February. The ‘box’ for that is a small dongle thing and the remote is all gray with an ‘Apps’ button in the bottom right.
ETA: streaming DVR is cloud based. Streaming service has been great so far.
