The only apple product I own is a gen4 or gen5 ipod that's beeing sitting it the kitchen "junk drawer" for year. Recently I had a copule of vids pop up on my youtube recommends (I think because I watch a lot of tech repair vids) about modding old ipods to SD card storage and bigger batteries. Of course, this sent me down the rabit hole. Really thinking about doing it. This would be for no particular reason orther than to see if I can as I have my entire 20,000+ song library on my phone.
I think the only deal breaker might be if I have to use apple's music management software to use it....
Anyone done this or know anything about it?

You should be able to put Rockbox on there... should work fine.
Read yuuiko's guide, unless you already have.
My son and I messed around with this a few years back.. lost interest in it once I found Elite Obsolete Electronics where you can just order it already done.
