Parts of Madrid I liked when I was there. I personally liked Barcelona a lot. Probably because of the beach and it seemed very chill to me when I was there a few years back. Just felt like if I knew any Spanish, I would move there.

If you need any advice, recs, etc just let me know. Knowing what I know now I would've slightly changed a few things, but not too much. Off the cuff is the way to go IMO, but also knowing where to spend your time, and more importantly where NOT to waste your time can make it a better trip.
