Just have a couple days off at Thanksgiving and want to get away. I'm just not up for getting on a plane right now because of the masks and do not want to spend most of my break driving. Was looking at Arkansas but am looking for suggestions too. TIA.

Texas hill country. But it’s more like 7-8 hours, not 6.

THC is a good suggestion.

I would also consider the Ouchita Mountains of Arkansas (Shady Lake and just north) and Broken Bow Lake in Oklahoma. It's 6.5 hours away.

Hit the mountain state parks in central Arkansas. Petit Jean, Nebo, Magazine and Wilheimena. All within an hour of each other. Great hiking and scenery. Waterfalls, etc. Drive through Hot Springs or Little Rock on the way out and then just make a loop.
Stay at the lodges if you can , they are top notch.

I know it violates the simple instructions you asked for, but at 7 hours from BR the waterfall and scenery at Ft. Payne AL is really nice. (Desoto Falls)

Then, just a little up the road towards Chattanooga is Cloudland Canyon State Park in GA.

I've got Murphy in mind. The difference between Murphy and Ponca is less than an hour's time. But the scenery....
