If an airline needs a customer to change their flight to the next morning, can the customer get the airline to pay for a hotel room that night? I’ve never been in this situation and I might be in about 75 minutes….

Normally they will not pay, especially if it's in advance. What dates/where are you flying to/ what airline?
Ie what's the situation that you need a hotel? Did they screw up or your connection got blown?

I’m at CLT right now. Already switched from an earlier flight to a flight in two hours and they gave me a $1,000 travel voucher. I’ve already gotten that in my email. According to their app, they are offering more money for people to switch from tonight’s fight to tomorrow morning. I’ll switch and take the extra travel credit IF they pay for my hotel tonight.

Ahh, for a second I was worried that you were caught up in the southwest fiasco. You are in an excellent condition to make $$$ tonight (sounds like you already did!). Curious, what route was oversold?
For the next flight, yes if it's the last flight of the night and it's oversold they can get you a hotel. It may be at a super8, comfort inn, etc but as part of your condition for bargaining you can request a hotel + money. If they say no hotel then tell them you're not willing to give up your seat.

I flew from CVG to CLT as the first leg, now the second leg is CLT to MSY.
Yep, already have $1,000 travel credit in my pocket.

Was it CVG-CLT or was it CLT-MSY that was oversold? I'm looking at the remaining two CLT-MSY flights tonight and they're both completely sold out, zero seats in economy or first. There's a 10:45pm flight to Dallas if you want to get even closer, otherwise request the hotel in CLT.

CLT to MSY all day has been sold out apparently

Well if you're on 454 and do volunteer, you could ask for standby on 1943 and hope a few people misconnect for that last flight of the night. Or just take the hotel and try again tomorrow morning

In any case, congrats on your score today! I got $1400 on Delta on two oversold flights out of BTR and it paid to go to Hawaii plus some change. Where do you plan on traveling to with the voucher?

I think VABuckeye is our caribbean expert on here as well as a few others, would probably suggest starting a new thread on the board once you're back asking for some suggestions. I've been to St. Maarten when I was a kid and enjoyed it, Aruba was so/so but granted that was 2 weeks after Natalie Holloway disappeared so that might have something to deal with the weird vibes we were getting...

Do you know if they need your seat? I see we're getting close to departure time

My luggage is already at MSY so I just kept my seat. Plus they never announced anything about needing volunteers. It was on their app asking me to change my flight but the highest travel credit was $450. I did get upgraded to the class just behind first class.
