Portland Maine in October

We have one night in Portland Maine. We are thinking we want to stay in the harbor area. Does anyone have a favorite or recommended hotel or is there a better area to spend one night? Interested in a nice meal for dinner and just walking around. We will have an afternoon and night before flying out.
TIA

Inn by the Sea is great - not technically in Portland but a 5 minute drive to downtown.

Inn by the Sea is a great place to stay. Access to a nice state park beach. You can experience coastal Maine while being within easy driving distance of downtown. In town, I have stayed at the Portland Harbor Hotel. Nothing spectacular, but very nice in a good location. There are lots of other choices downtown.

Duckfat or Eventide for dinner.

Respectfully disagree, and I love both of those spots. Seriously, could eat there every day if I had the choice. But they're better for lunch.
If you're having one dinner in Portland, I'd vote for Central Provisions.
