You will see homeless but it's been like that for as long as I've been going there, 20 years or so.

bullshite. I grew up right outside of PDX in Gresham, Oregon. 20 years ago downtown was virtually spotless. Booming businesses and restaurants. Now it’s a shithole with junkies and tent cities everywhere. I told my friends still there I’m never coming back. frick that place. You need a fricking permit to drive the Columbia River gorge now for frick sakes. When I graduated college moved to Seattle. *Was* beautiful back then. Now it’s just like PDX. Boarded up businesses and frickin junkies everywhere. It’s amazing what happens to a city when you don’t prosecute crimes……and it isn’t good

To be fair, timed use permits are really only needed Multnomah Falls and Dog Mountain. It's not the entirety.

Even then, this isn't specific to just Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. As National Forests, Parks and Scenic Areas became even more popular in 2020 and 2021, timed use permits helped control flow of traffic at some of them during peak season, including Arches, Rocky Mountain, Glacier, and different parts of Inyo. It's all about controlling peak crowds at parks that don't have the infrastructure (e.g. Yellowstone's Figure 8 is probably the only reason they haven't gone through timed use permits yet).

Seems like a silly thing to be angry about.

When was the last time you were back? I was just there in July and had a great time. Not any more homeless than every other city you go to now. And it's far from a shithole in my opinion. I live in Shreveport, so I have a good baseline.
