We stay at Summerwind every Thanksgiving week. It's three separate towers right by the fishing pier. Never had an issue but I've never been during peak summer months.

I've used Paradise Beach Rentals and stay at Regency Towers further down Pcola Beach before Portofino.
They're certainly nothing special but the beach there is not crowded and it gives my family what we need.

We've stayed at Summerwind about 5 times. I like the west unit the best because it has the store. We love Navarre.

Emerald Isle and the beach club are the only ones I’ve stayed at. Close to the center of everything

We go to Portofino every year. This year will be in mid-June. I will have 3 kids this year, 9m, 2yr, and a 7yr. We have several other friends/family that will have their kids there too. The advantage is having a bay and gulf side so there is some form of entertainment no matter the weather. Your kids are almost perfect age for the floating adventure park on the rough Gulf days. The kids can all play while I can sit back and pound bushwackers all day. And having a restaurant on-site helps with not having to cook EVERY night and not having to stay sober to drive to fight crowded downtown restaurant areas.

We've stayed at Summerwind and the Pearl. Rented them both through VRBO but that was years ago.
NOT much to do there which is perfectly fine with me .. the beach and books are all I need. But you may have to leave to do things with the kids if y'all are the on the go type.
