It's really a fairly easy process especially compared to international travel. We were originally going to Jamaica but, changed it after the CDC travel guidelines went into effect in January. I'm glad we went to St. John over Jamaica. We did purchase travel insurance just in case something happened. If this is for your honeymoon, it may be worth looking into. I believe we spent a couple hundred dollars on our policy. Another thing that you may want to do now if it isn't already too late is book your rental car if you plan on renting one. I booked ours about 2 months out but, I've been reading where the island has been seeing A LOT more tourists. It's not necessary to rent a car if you'll be within walking distance of Cruz Bay but, if not I would be looking into that pretty quick. One other thing to look at is restaurant reservations. I'm sure you'll want to eat out at a couple of nice restaurants while you're down there. I believe I made reservations for Extra Virgin Bistro and Morgan's Mango about a month out.

Enjoyed reading this thread.
Same. Thanks to everyone for answering questions and providing your own suggestions.
A group of friends and I are heading down mid July and are staying at one of the villas at Bogie's Villa ( LINK) which appears to be pretty centrally located. A few questions I had:
1. Wanting to rent our vehicle in St John based on some of the comments in this thread. I reached out to Slim Man's but they have no availability for the dates we're there (I did however give them my contact info and they're going to see what they can do). If that doesn't work out, are there any other local rental companies that you guys would suggest? If not, I'll just try to find something on St. Thomas.
2. We're wanting to go offshore fishing and have seen several different companies mentioned by VABuckeye, et al. that I've jotted down. Have any of you have any experience with Double Header or Ocean Surfari?
3. We're possibly wanting to take a day trip to Jost van Dyke to hit up Soggy Dollar, One Love, etc. Are they still allowing it with Covid? If so, any water-taxi/ferry suggestions?
4. Best Trails?
I appreciate the help

Here is a link to a list of rental car companies on St. John. This website is also full of good information and they put out some good articles. We rented our Jeep on St. Thomas from Discount Car Rental and they treated us well.

I can't help you with any recommendations for offshore fishing.

Go to that News of St. John website I linked above. They had an article about this last week. I'm not sure if you have to have a negative Covid test before you come back from the BVI or not. I know they did just open up something on Tortola but, not sure about JVD.

4. Best Trails?
Unfortunately, my wife doesn't like to hike so we didn't do any trails. I had some friends go in January and they told me that there were some good trails around Ram's Head. I can't personally recommend any though.

We are going mid-May and are also wondering this. However, as far as I know, right now the BVI's are not allowing visitors unless you are staying at a hotel and you have to quarantine. So no day trips from STT or STJ to Jost. See the link below to a local blog - News of St John.

ETA: Damonster beat me to it! But keep monitoring that blog. A lot can change between now and July.

Restaurant reservations.
Boat reservations if you plan on doing any of that.
Other than that start working on your tan! I can’t wait to get back down there!

Suggestions for restaurants to reserve? I’m
Not opposed to traveling into Cruz bay, but I’ll spend most of my time away from there. Cooking at the house and eating in coral
Bay.
Oh, and my wife knows nothing about the trip. I’ll have to figure out a way to get her tested without giving it away.

Extra Virgin Bistro in Cruz Bay for a really nice dinner. Morgan’s Mango is good too but Extra Virgin Bistro was better. If you’re going for an anniversary, honeymoon, etc. mention that to them when you make your reservations. They greeted us with a “Thank you for spending your 10 year anniversary with us.” That was nice to start. Then they brought each of us a glass of wine and some type of appetizer that the chef made for us. All because I mentioned we would be celebrating our anniversary with them.
We didn’t spend much time on the Coral Bay side of the island but, you’ll probably want to go to Miss Lucy’s. They have an open mic night that looked like it would have made for a fun night.

This is at extra Virgin? Headed down for our 15th anniversary.
It’s terrible, but I developed an allergy to seafood (fish included) several years back and seafood is one of my favorite things. Oh well, their menu has some good non-seafood options.

Yes, that was at Extra Virgin Bistro.

ZoZo’s. Extra Virgin is outstanding. ZoZo’s is another level and I love Extra Virgin.

Boat reservations
Is this for snorkeling, island hopping, sight seeing? Have one in particular you’d suggest? My plan was just take it easy for a week. A few hikes in the park, beach hop, take it day to day.

We didn’t go out on any boats while we were there because all we did was mostly relax. I looked at different boats but my wife didn’t want to spend a whole day on the water. I really did and it’s something I’ll eventually do. The one I seriously looked at was Kekoa. You may want to check them out.

Rockhoppin Adventures is my go-to. Get Captain Steve if you can. Little fricker is a blast to cruise around with.
Right now you can't day trip to the BVI but you can cruise around St. John and hit Lime Out for floating tacos and drinks plus there are some great snorkeling spots around St. John.
We've done Kekoa but with the BVI closed I don't know if I'd go that route.

Thanks for all of the info. I’m sure I’ll have plenty of other questions. My trips are usually better researched than this, but I spontaneously decided to go and booked a villa/Jeep/and house faith in a short time span.
