I've skied in a lot of towns, and Telluride is my favorite resort town by a long-shot. World-class Terrain, unbelievable views, great restaurants (particularly in the town of Telluride - "There" and "221 South Oak" are fantastic), and, perhaps best of all, small crowds. Yes, it is pricey. And the elevation is rough. But I go to Telluride year after year after year for a reason. (I even prefer Telluride to JH).
Further, if you are an excellent skier who has outgrown the resort (and taken AIARE training and ski with a buddy with proper equipment etc.), Telluride has some unbelievable side-country options.
Not quite comfortable in my mountaineering / hiking / backcountry capabilities yet - but this couloir is on my bucket list:
