ALWAYS wear your seatbelt when you can.
We had an old cuss in my family that was all over the place in WWII - there for like 3 years in some of the worst shite...and came out fine.
However, on the way back, I believe they had him on commercial for at least part of the journey. He was in his seat, but without his seatbelt, and they hit some random big bump of turbulence that caused him to fly straight up and smash his head/neck on the ceiling.
Spent the rest of his life with a quasi-debilitating neck injury.
