I’ve hiked in major bear areas. Only time I took bear spray was in high grizzly area. If you are hiking where bears have scavenged campsites and garbage areas, you will need to have more protection than dealing with bears in their pristine environment. Once they get used to humans who think they are in a park or zoo, you are at risk.
